Althought Massaponax couldn’t bring home the title , they were by far the most competitive team Oscar Smith played that season. Other than when they played Massaponax , Oscar Smiths lowest scoring game was two 48-0 victories over nearby [[Grassfield High School]] and only 1 out of 8 teams scored more than Massaponax did against Oscar Smith (South County by a touchdown)

Massaponax High School is a public school in Spotsylvania County, VA. It is part of Spotsylvania County Public Schools and is located on 8211 Jefferson Davis Highway

Location

Massaponax High School is located in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. consisting of 416.1 square miles (1,078 km2) located in the outer region of Northern Virginia, midway between the nation's capital of Washington, D.C., and the state capital of Richmond; both of which are approximately 50 miles (80 km) distant. Spotsylvania County is bordered by Caroline County to the south and east, Stafford County to the north, while the City of Fredericksburg lies to the east and King George County to the east. The county is along the Rappahannock and Rapidan Rivers.

Athletics

Massaponax High School is part of the AAA Commonwealth District and AAA Northwest Region, and offers soccer, tennis, cheerleading, cross country, lacrosse, football, golf, volleyball, basketball, field hockey, swimming, wrestling, baseball, softball, track and field, and gymnastics .

Massaponax's football team reached the State Finals in 2003 following an undefeated regular season, but lost.[1]

In 2020, the Massaponax Football team had a shortened season due to the COVID-19 pandemic but finished the season 8-1 overall with the highest scoring game being a 62-27 win against Stafford High School. Massaponax advanced through the state playoffs with a 56-15 win against Battlefield High School and a 56-21 win over Patriot High School. On April 24th the Ponax Panthers left the DC Area for Hampton Roads to face Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake Virginia. Oscar Smith would go on to beat Massaponax 21-14 and advance to play South County High School in the state playoffs and eventually secure the state title with a 62-21 win.

Marching band

The marching band is known as the Massaponax Marching Panther Pride (MP²).
