Adrien Charles Duval (born 1990) is a politician, former Deputy Speaker, and currently the Speaker of National Assembly of Mauritius.[1]

Early life, education & career

Adrien Duval is the son of Xavier-Luc Duval and Jennifer Duval. He is also the grand son of Sir Gaëtan Duval.[2][3]

After completing legal studies at the University of Kent and the University of Law in England, Adrien Duval returned to Mauritius and started his pupillage at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution under Rashid Ahmine's supervision. He then continued his training at the law firms of Marc Hein and Rajesh Bucktowonsing.[4][5]

Political career

At the December 2014 general elections Adrien Duval was elected in Constituency No. 17 Curepipe-Midlands, and soon afterwards was nominated as Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly (Mauritius). In 2016 he lost the title of Deputy Speaker when the PMSD left the ruling government.[6]

At the 2019 general elections, he was not reelected. However, in July 2024 he was nominated as Speaker of National Assembly of Mauritius soon after Sooroojdev Phokeer's resignation.[7]

On the 21st of September 2022, he was involved in a car accident with another vehicle, resulting in bodily harm for the other driver and is currently being prosecuted for driving under influence and refusal to submit to toxicological tests. On the site of the accident, he notoriously lied to the officers claiming he was a passenger and not driving before later retracting his statement. [8]
