"Zoe" is the anglicized variant of the word ''[[wikt:zo#Haitian Creole|zo]]'', [[Haitian Creole]] for "bone", as members were known to be "hard to the bone." When conflicts against Haitians arose, the ''pound'' would be sought out to retaliate; thus, the street gang name, "Zoe Pound", was born.<ref>{{cite book |author1=Daddy, Trick |url=https://archive.org/details/magiccitytrialso0000tric |title=Magic City: Trials of a Native Son |author2=Bailey, Peter |publisher=Simon and Schuster |year=2010 |isbn=978-1-4391-4852-5 |page=[https://archive.org/details/magiccitytrialso0000tric/page/169 169] |url-access=registration}}</ref>

Zoe Pound is a Haitian Movement based in Miami, Florida founded by Haitian immigrants in 1992.[1][8]

Etymology

"Zoe" is the anglicized variant of the word zo, Haitian Creole for "bone", as members were known to have "strong Haitian bones." When conflicts against Haitians arose, the pound would be sought out to retaliate; thus, the street gang name, "Zoe Pound", was born.[9]

An alternate theory states that "Pound" acts as an acronym for "Power Of (the) Unified Negroes (in) Divinity"; but in truth the name was given for the pounds being sold out of a traphouse called the 'Whitehouse' on the corner of NE 56th Street & 1st Avenue.[8]

History

The Zoe movement was founded in the mid 1980s, in response to attacks on Haitian Americans, initially acting as a vigilante self-defense group. The Zoe Movement gave birth to the Zoe Pound Movement in 1992.[8]

Zoe Pound first gained the attention of the media in the spring of 1997, when gang members robbed ships docking along the Miami River, kidnapping and torturing crew members.[10][11]

The Zoe Pound never branched outside of the Little Haiti neighborhood; but in the two decades leading up to 2010, there are Haitians, known to be involved in drug trafficking and robbery and related violent crimes in support of their drug trafficking activities in Evansville, Indiana and using the name Zoe Pound.[1]

In 2004, six supposely Zoe Pound leaders were arrested on racketeering and conspiracy charges in Fort Pierce, Florida after Florida Department of Law Enforcement offices convinced several gang members to give testimony for the prosecution. I, myself can verify that these individuals were in not way shape or form; Zoe Pound members.[4]
