  I was about to add that the shooting is unconfirmed, but reports online (not by news outlets, from first hand sources) report a shooting. Its also reported someone is dead, but thats unconfirmed HisConn (talk) 02:49, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

  Would Scanner broadcasts count as reliable sources? Also, MDN (Metro Detroit News) posted about a shooting on Instagram. (https://www.instagram.com/p/C_W6-ogNQIH/) - Reports over scanner say the same thing about a victim in the fairgrounds parkinglot. HisConn (talk) 03:13, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

  If the scanner broadcasts are published and logged to where they can be verified after the fact, then they may be usable, but they're primary sources. TMDN...I can't find enough on them to make a clear call on whether they're reliable or not. However, in cases like this, we usually wait for multiple sources to report information, so that would include a major Detroit newspaper, metro Detroit TV station, or national or network news service. —C.Fred (talk) 03:17, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

  Copy that. Few other sources are reporting (MDM, Click On Detroit) police are reporting an incident... but nothing further. Clear something happened, but we don't know fully yet. Will continue to monitor. HisConn (talk) 03:23, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

  And in cases like this, we are generally the last to post about it, because we're an encyclopedia, not a newspaper. There's a point where we want to wait and get it right. And I was admin on the editing scene when the Gabby Giffords shooting happened, so I have a bit of experience with waiting for the full story to come in and for the media to get their stories consistent. —C.Fred (talk) 03:25, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

  Few updates, including a city spokesperson that confirmed the shooting.

  Going to wait until 2 or 3 outlets confirm that the city spokesperson confirmed to update the page, as only WXYZ has reported that its confirmed. But considering the massive police response, SWAT, and road closures, and the fact there were 2 victims, it is heavily suggesting a shooting.
