The UPND Alliance is a political coalition in Zambia, formed to consolidate opposition parties ahead of the 2021 general elections. The alliance is led by the United Party for National Development (UPND), with other key members including the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) and the Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD).[1][2] The UPND Alliance secured a significant victory in the 2021 elections, resulting in Hakainde Hichilema becoming the 7th president of Zambia.
The Alliance was established in response to the political and economic challenges facing Zambia under the previous government, aiming to bring about reform and development.[3] The UPND Alliance continues to play a significant role in Zambian politics, navigating challenges such as internal party dynamics and the expectations of its coalition members.[4]
