Background

Montgomery released his debut extended play Caught on The Moon in 2014, with its three songs appearing later on the album.

The album became a sleeper hit in mid-2020, when its two tracks "Line Without a Hook" and "Mr. Loverman" gained popularity on video-sharing app TikTok, with users on the app using it in various videos.

Following the popularity of his songs, he was contacted by "virtually every single major label A&R in a matter of months."[2] In December 2020[2], Montgomery signed to Warner Records.[3] "Line Without a Hook" and "Mr. Loverman" were then released as remixes featuring artists Mxmtoon and Chloe Moriondo, respectively.

I think because we had a really traumatizing year, these songs kind of found a moment, because they're all, in their own way, about traumas in my life.
