equal marriages Romanov Bagration .

When Princess Tatiana Konstantinovna , daughter of G-D Konstantine Konstantinovich, obtained the consent of her father to marry Konstantine Bagration and of course the blessing of HIM Nicholas II, she signed an official renouncement to their future children's rights, and that was BEFORE the abdication of the Romanov dynasty. So did her niece Ekaterina Ioannovna, princess of the Imperial Blood, in the late thirties, when she married Ruggero, marchese (in italian, or marquess, it means the same,) Farace di Villaforesta, for their children. Neither of these children : Nicoletta, Fiammetta and Ivan Farace ever considered themselves as heirs.... but Ivan, now marchese Farace di Villaforesta, is an active honorary member of the Family Association since his mother passed away in 2007. If Konstantine was not equal to Tatiana Konstantinovna, Leonida was not equal to Vladimir Kirilovich.( Who was not a grand duke himself, according to the Laws, it was a "titre de courtoisie"...). This is simple and clear . Grand dukes, during the last years of the Empire, were only brothers, children and grand children of the Emperor. The sons of GD Konstantine Konstantinovich were born as grand dukes, but became princes when the Laws were modified, before the end or the monarchy. The last Emperor was GD Mikhail for a very short time, and all the grand dukes and grand duchesses are now dead, alas. Princess Olga Dolgorouky

Hello everyone,

If any AfC reviewers have the time and inclination, I have an article Draft:Princess Olga Dolgorouky, which is waiting for review. Princess Olga was a member of the Russian Imperial family, and was among those saved when George V sent HMS Marlborough to the Balkans to save what was left of the family of the Tsar, following the 1917 revolution.

Thanks in advance,

Mac Edmunds (talk) 07:55, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Mac Edmunds: Sorry, colleague, the sources of your article are based on tabloids (which don't have their facts straight) and as such they cannot establish the notability of the person. Notability is not inherited, and being a wife is not enough. And she was not member of "Russian imperial family", simply member of Russian nobility. As for her being "princess: Her father was knyaz, which is confusingly translated as "prince" and not necessarily mean belonging to ruling family, simply a higher rank of nobility. Summarizing my opinion, she was a socialite and noble from the suffering Russia and hence popped up in news, but I dont think this makes her notable per wikipedia standards. - Altenmann >talk 17:10, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

translation correction?

RussianAbortionPoster

This 1925 poster at Abortion#Unsafe_abortion is currently translated as "Miscarriages induced by either grandma or self-taught midwives not only maim the woman, they also often lead to death." An IP has come into the talk page and said a better translation would be "Miscarriages induced by either self-taught midwives or obstetricians not only maim the woman, they also often lead to death." Obviously this is a pretty major difference in intended meaning. Can anyone help? Thanks! Valereee (talk) 15:50, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yes the first translation is wrong, but the second is not good either. "Babka" in this context means folk healer woman, who often act as midwive. "Akusherka" is a "false friend": "akusher" does mean obstetrician, but the feminine form "akusherka" means midwife nurse. So the correct corresponding piece would be "by a self-taught or professional midwife". - Altenmann >talk 16:53, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, @Altenmann! Valereee (talk) 21:14, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Altenmann, @Valereee. The English-language meaning of the revised translation is very different from the meaning of the Soviet poster. The background for the poster is that in 1925 abortion was legal in the USSR. (The history section of the abortion article mentions the Soviet legalization of abortion in 1920.) The poster warns women against the use of informal abortion providers, namely, midwives and what (in the African American dialect of English) are sometimes called "granny midwives" (older women who perform some midwife functions). Nothing in the Russian indicates "self-taught", which in current English usage means learning from books or videos. Typically they were not self-taught, but rather learned from the older generation of midwives, through woman-to-woman instruction or apprenticeship. Nothing in the Russian indicates "professional" or "obstetrician", both of which in current English usage indicate accreditation by the recognized medical establishment. The Soviet poster was not a warning about abortion performed by credentialed doctors, that is, obstetricians.
Please note that, according to WP:BRD and WP:ONUS, the stable version of the caption should remain while this matter is being resolved here or on the article talk-page. Thanks. NightHeron (talk) 10:11, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Help with an article in Russian?

Hi, could someone who knows Russian help me with a cite-check of a journal article that I think is in Russian? It's cited in the article on Assault. The third paragraph in the lead has this sentence: "When this distinction is observed, battery refers to the actual bodily contact, whereas assault refers to a credible threat or attempt to cause battery." One of the cites in support of this statement, currently cite 9, is this: "Romanenko, Ya.O.; Marin, M.A.; Riabko, A.K.; Kartseva, A.S.; Silkina, M.V.; Zeninskaya, N.A.; Shemyakin, I.G.; Dyatlov, I.A.; Firstova, V.V. (2021). "Toxin neutralizing activity of monoclonal antibodies against Bacillus anthracis lethal toxin". Immunologiya. 42 (3): 232–242" From the title of the article and the name of the journal, I assume this is an article about immunology, not the criminal offence of assault, but the article itself is in Russian, I think, so I can't check it myself. Could someone take a look at it? If it has nothing to do with assault or battery, I would want to remove it from the Assault article. Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 02:27, 25 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Mr Serjeant Buzfuz: Nonsense ref. removed. But here is a disturbing sign: I checked thru history to Ugwuowo samuel (talk · contribs)'s edits on MArhc 2w 2023. This user was caught on pumping chatbot-generated content into "Physica abuse" which was reverted. Perhaps maybe you have thoroughly review "Assault" as well and do the same. - Altenmann >talk 04:51, 25 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
P.S., see more in my post Wikipedia:Village_pump_(miscellaneous)#Chatbots_assault?. - Altenmann >talk 05:39, 25 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You can ignore that reference in Russian. Whereas foreign citations are welcome in English Wikipedia when there are no sources at all in English of equivalent quality as foreign ones, for the Assault article, there are hundreds, or thousands, of sources that are as good, or better, than the Russian one. This means that you not only can, but should use English sources exclusively for this article. The fact that it is about immunology is just bizarre. Mathglot (talk) 08:46, 25 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That is a wrong advice. The legal definition of "assault" may differ for various countries. - Altenmann >talk 15:59, 25 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Should Tabasaran people be double-checked?

A relatively new editor who identifies as Tabasaran has added a huge amount of content to Tabasaran people in the past three months. When I sought to compare the new content with the corresponding article on Russian Wikipedia, I found that this user has been blocked indefinitely on ru-wiki for repeatedly deleting referenced content on articles related to Tabasarans, typically to remove any mention of links between Tabasarans and Azerbaijanis. I won't rush to judge an editor just because of their behavior on another wiki, but I do think that someone from this project should double-check the article. Huntthetroll (talk) 03:13, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted article to old reasonably good version add added one more waring to user's page. If they continue ignoring our rules, we may reqest block. - Altenmann >talk 03:54, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Russian Hawaii

There's a missing article, Russian Hawaii or Russian colonization of Hawaii, which should summarize the at least three Russian settlements and fortifications that were historically there. This is briefly covered (little more than bare mention) at Russian colonization of North America, but Hawaii is not in North America, even if presently an overseas state of a country the capital of which is in North America. PS: Actually, I guess it should be Hawaiʻi, since the Hawaii spelling was imposed by the US later (and the ʻokina is not a ' or ‘ or ’ apostrophe/quotemark).  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  21:50, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It was a brief unsuccessful stunt detailed in Schäffer affair; redirected. Maybe later I will interlink it in Wikipedia. - Altenmann >talk 20:18, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. It looks like Russian Hawaii must be written up, because besides colonization thetre is Eastern Orthodoxy in Hawaii. - Altenmann >talk 20:21, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Soviet republics in infoboxes

Following this recent discussion for Soviet republics in infoboxes, most Russian biographical articles who were born and died in the Soviet Union, have "Russian SFSR" per Template:Infobox person/doc, as well as for Ukrainian people.

For example, many people born in the Soviet Union, including Vladimir Putin, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Alexander Lukashenko, etc. Other people died in the Soviet Union, including Vladimir Lenin, Joseph Stalin, Lyudmila Pavlichenko, etc. 49.150.12.163 (talk) 04:14, 2 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

So what? - Altenmann >talk 04:28, 2 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Unlike historical countries, like states of the German Empire, Austria-Hungary and SFR Yugoslavia have subordinate countries. For example, Josip Broz Tito was born in "Kumrovec, Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia, Austria-Hungary," and died in "Ljubljana, SR Slovenia, SFR Yugoslavia" as shown in infobox. 49.150.12.163 (talk) 06:33, 2 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A telegram post citing Duma member Mikhail Delyagin says that Evgeniy Poddubny has died. However, I haven't seen any third party news reports on this yet. The Russian version of Wikipedia cites he has died however. Waiting for confirmaiton, first from Russian language sources. If anyone has seen any, please add them. That's the problem with modern media: rushing sensationalist claims. BBC updated its online article Befor it wrote "he died ... citing unnamed source", but now it says he survived. Meaning "third party" means nothing. - Altenmann >talk 20:31, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
