On July 19, 2024, while gathering news about the quota reform movement on Central Road in Dhaka, he was shot and killed by law enforcement. Biography
Tahir Zaman Priyo, born on March 7, 1997, in Rangpur, was a talented artist. His mother, Shamsi Ara Zaman, supported his exceptional intellect and creativity from a young age. He showed a keen interest in creative work and excelled in painting and photography, along with a special talent and enthusiasm for reviewing films and series. After completing his collage, instead of enrolling in university, he pursued a diploma in Professional Photography at the Pathshala South Asian Media Institute. In his personal life, he was the father of a daughter named Sabira Zaman. This four-year-old girl was one of his greatest treasures. In addition to being a father, he also took on the nurturing role of a caregiver. [2] [3]
Role in the 2024 Quota Reform Movement
Although Tahir Zaman priyo was a freelance journalist and videographer, he was also an active participant in the quota reform movement in Bangladesh in 2024. Despite his mother's strong objections, he took part in the movement with great determination. At the beginning of the protests, his mother urged him not to get involved. In response, he said, "This is a just movement, and it is my duty to participate.[4]
Death
On July 19, 2024, at around 5 PM, Tahir Zaman Priyo was fulfilling his journalistic duties among the student protesters on Central Road in Dhaka, advocating for quota reforms. During this time, the police began firing lethal bullets at the crowd of students and citizens. Suddenly a bullet hit Priya's head and Priya collapsed. Priya's friends tried to rescue her and take her to the hospital, but it was not possible due to the continuous firing by the police. Later that day at ten o'clock at night, his body was found from Dhaka Medical College mortuary. [5]
