Playing career
Livermore begun his career with Liverpool where in came through the youth system to eventually sign professional forms on the 1st November 1965 as an 18 year old. Doug Livermore was appointed as Nigel Worthingtons assistant manager on a caretaker basis with Leicester City. They were put in charge by chairman Milan Mandaric for the final five games of the season to save the club from relegation, after the sacking of Rob Kelly.
