Currently in progress [[Turkish–Armenian War|was a war between the First Republic of Armenia and the Grand National Assembly of Turkey]]. The Turks had [[Battle of Oltu|launched an offensive into the]] [[Olti okrug|Oltu district]], pushing the poorly-equipped Armenian forces backward; [[Battle of Sarikamish (1920)|Sarikamish was captured]] without much of a fight. The only fronts after that were the [[Surmalu uezd|Surmalu]] [[Iğdır|(Iğdır)]] front, and the line of [[Battle of Kars (1920)|defense at Kars]]. The Battle of Surmalu was one of the few battles in the Turkish-Armenian war that resulted in an Armenian victory. It lasted from October 24 – October 30, 1920. The sides involved were the First Republic of Armenia, which was commanded by Drastamat Kanayan, and the Grand National Assembly of Turkey with Kurdish volunteers[1]
