Despite his narrow loss in the county board president's race to Todd Stroger, Peraica now enjoys support from many who formerly endorsed Stroger. In 2007, he worked with a bipartisan group of commissioners to craft an alternative to Todd Stroger's budget that would have spared clinics and saved jobs for front-line workers. His efforts were thwarted by a group of political insiders whose only interest was in protecting the status quo and gaining political favors from Todd Stroger. More recently, Peraica led the charge to defeat a no-bid contract for a politically connected firm that was to assume cleaning responsibilities in the county building following the dismissal of 61 janitors by the county.
