No idea if "electric" in this context also comprises 750V dc 3rd rail operation.
No idea if "electric" in this context also comprises a potential for 750V dc 3rd rail operation (as in class 92). The diesel mode in standby during 3rd rail electric workings might save cl.99 from getting "gapped".
May I understand that the predecessor lightweight Bo'Bo' class 88 had been confined to pax duties?
I understand that the predecessor lightweight Bo'Bo' classes 88 & 93 had been working on pax duties, albeit designed for freight?
Decriptions for EuroDual of continental / Scandinavian pattern seem to apply, however, squeezed into the UK clearances, without the reduced power specs for SaLi and FGC derivatives on the metre gauge. Given the spacious appearance of the cl. 159's engine & control compartments, that seems a logical consequence, in hope the structural integrity ("crashworthiness") will not be sacrificed to save weight & space.

OK, Link to class 99 page seems sufficient.

? UK-derivative of "EuroDual" aka "Class 99" ?

Anyone here to add this to the page, as Stadler seem to have proceeded with the dual power issue beyond class 88 state-of-art? Might become a game-changer for freight business with equal availability of diesel and electric hauling power for through operation of freight trains between electric and diesel lines. No idea if "electric" in this context also comprises a potential for 750V dc 3rd rail operation (as in class 92). The diesel mode in standby during 3rd rail electric workings might save cl.99 from getting "gapped". I understand that the predecessor lightweight Bo'Bo' classes 88 & 93 had been working on pax duties, albeit designed for freight? Decriptions for EuroDual of continental / Scandinavian pattern seem to apply, except for the diesel engine; however, re-designed to match UK clearances, without the reduced power specs for SaLi and FGC derivatives on the metre gauge. Given the spacious appearance of the cl. 159's engine & control compartments, that seems a logical consequence, in hope the structural integrity ("crashworthiness") will not be sacrificed to save weight & space. OK, Link to class 99 page seems sufficient. Thank you !2003:DD:6F05:C423:9C08:AB64:AE8C:9391 (talk) 21:42, 16 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
