Mediation needed

Hi Hesp. Can you informally mediate a dispute? User:Fancyfootwork is changing the names of a whole lot of WA places from "X, Western Australia" to "X Community, Western Australia", on the basis that they are Aboriginal communities. I don't know about you, but I'm very uncomfortable about this for several reasons. I have attempted to explain my reasons to him at his talk page (under "Kalumburu"), but we can't seem to agree on much. As I have always found you to be a fair-minded person I would be grateful for a third opinion. Grant | Talk 02:11, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

The obvious question is why do Oombulgirri, Bidyadanga and Lombidina have both names? Perhaps they used to be communities but have since been gazetted as towns. Or perhaps they used to be towns, but were "demoted" to communities because, for example, the post office pulled out. Or perhaps they were gazetted as towns before the decision was made to distinguish between towns and communities. We need to find answers to these questions before we can decide whether these three should be at "Name" or "Name Community".

New article

Hi Hesp. Thanks for your help so far. I just added our material to Katherine, Northern Territory and this time with references. Also I talked to my staff and we will be more sensitive and write more not just copy it. Uluru was a little bit strange due to the fact, there is a campaign running at the moment and someone wanted to have our information on Wikipedia asap. For my (private) German translation for de.wikipedia.org I will do it in a better way. And yes I am patient but not always on Monday :-) Thanks again! Nttc

Thanks for your comments, I stole the distribution map idea frmm the Banksia articles because it does make quite a difference to the quality of the item. If imitation is the best form of flattery then i hope you definitely feel flattered!

Yeah, it's our job to advertise any FACs or GACs related to Western Australia, regardless of their worthiness. The refs are not *as* bad as the last time but are still unverifiable - I don't think they have got the point quite yet :/ I really don't like having to write negative stuff about other people's work (this is my first oppose vote for Aquinas). Hey there, I've been considering lately that Thomas Dixon should probably link directly to Thomas Dixon, Jr., as that article probably has dominant usage (see here); not going to do anything without some kind of consensus between us, I am a major contributor to that article, and you are the major contributor to Thomas Hill Dixon, which is probably the second most used TD. Advice needed

Bit concerned by this one. A user Sibenordy (talk · contribs) appears to be cut-and-paste moving articles, then Wiendietry (talk · contribs) within only a few minutes (and in the case of Hamersley, in the *same* minute) has changed links to them all over Wikipedia, even in talk page archives. Both users' talk pages and contribs suggest this has been an issue several times before - and with articles which are not even vaguely related, although some recent Sibenordy changes related to another main page featured article. I was able to fix Hamersley and the 25 or so changes with rollback within about 10 minutes of it occurring, but I was really, really unsure how to proceed as far as warnings or whatever, or letting the Wikipedia community know this might be an infrequent problem. Stat Divs

Not sure! Haven't seen any, and I'm not entirely sure that they're notable (it'd be difficult to write about them as they are totally arbitrary - beyond saying they were created in 1976 and have a certain population and certain components), but I think we'll probably end up with, for example a Statistical divisions of (state) article which can list them, giving populations for each back to 1976 when the current lot were created (a different system of dividing them was used previously). I'm the guy who changed this article into a redirect page. I see that you have changed it back.

I honestly think that the two terms "statistical geography" and "spatial analysis" are synonymous. I'm not an expert, but I have done a quick review of the literature, and this really does appear to be the case. I've started a discussion on the article's talk page, and I'd like to get your input over there.

Austrobaileya articles

Greetings, friend! A while back I think you had offered to hunt down a few articles for me if need be. I've been looking for the following articles but haven't been able to locate them through interlibrary loan (I doubt any library in the Pacific Northwest carries these or is willing to send them to me):

• A.R.Bean -- Austrobaileya 5(4) (2000). (page around 613 - 631?)
• A.R.Bean -- Austrobaileya 5(3) (1999). (page around 451?)

Unfortunately, the source that cites these (IPNI) doesn't provide article titles or full page range, so I'm not sure if there are several articles on Stylidium taxonomy in the 2000 volume. I can't even find a table of contents list online that will give me this information, so I doubt my interlibrary loan would even be able to track it down by this info alone. Any ideas? And yep, I've exhausted what I've found at FloraBase, APNI, IPNI, etc. etc. I'm extremely determined, but being in the US doesn't help much when investigating these plants! Nuytsia is published in Western Australia, correct? I can normally get those here since it has a wider circulation, but if I run into trouble I'll give you a ring. I didn't realize Austrobaileya was so hard to obtain. Makes it a difficult resource, but one that has a lot of information I need in order to create more articles with accurate taxonomy sections. I was going to try to find if it was the only one in oz - which would have made it notable - and you undid it all? sigh SatuSuro 05:00, 28 April 2007 (UTC) Sorry to have bothered you - it all started at the Worst Oztrilian 27th April - with Celebrating an important part of western australian aviation (of which we do not have an article) - and I realised the snippets - including some stuff on norman brearely - obviously from the civil aviation historical soceity of WA - was giving some useful bits and a check on the web there are some good arts and follow ups - as - rather than putting up the thing on the project page - I was going to put stubs up for the royal aero club - and a few others first - anyways going in a million directions as always - I thought I had sighted something about the uni flying clubs the only of its sort - but leigh edminds article about the accidents and fialures of the 1930's looks far more productive - and surely at least 10 stubs could be developed from his art rather than struggling with the uni one anyways. oh well SatuSuro 05:44, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

Mechanical rating

I'm hoping to clear out the 270-odd plant species in "unknown importance WA articles" with regard to the WA-importance rating tag for our project. Can you indicate whether any of the items on User:Orderinchaos/Ratings list WA merit a WA-importance rating higher than Low?
