Electivire (エレキブル, Erekiburu, Elekible in original Japanese language versions) are one of the Template:Pokenum fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the multi-billion-dollar[1] Pokémon media franchise – a collection of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards and other media, created by Satoshi Tajiri. Electivire is famous for being one of the Pokémon revealed before the Japanese release of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. The purpose of Electivire in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers.[2]
Its name is possibly derived from electricity, voltage and wire. The Japanese name Elekible may be a portmanteau of the Japanese transliterations of the English words electricity (エレキテル, erekiteru) and cable (ケーブル, kēburu).
Biological characteristics
Electivire's back has a symbol that looks like an outlet, similar to how a previous form of it, Elekid, resembled a plug. It has red eyes and also seems to resemble the yeti or sasquatch. The small red parts on the end of its pair of tails resemble red LEDs.
In the video games
Electivire learns Giga Impact, which is a physical version of the now special Hyper Beam, and Thunderpunch. It also knows another new attack called Charge Beam, which has a high chance of raising the user's Special Attack. Since it evolves from Electabuzz, it can learn anything Electabuzz or Elekid can learn - and more, such as Flamethrower and Earthquake, making it the first Electric type to learn these moves. Electivire's ability, Motor Drive, not only prevents it from taking damage from an Electric-type attack, but also raises its Speed when struck by an Electric-type attack.
Although Electivire debuted in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, Elekid and Electabuzz are only obtainable when the player has obtained the National Dex and has a Pokémon FireRed cartridge plugged into the Nintendo DS.
Electabuzz evolves into Electivire when it has been traded while holding a new item called the Electrilizer. This item is sometimes found attached to wild Elekid.
Electivire has higher Attack than Special Attack, in contrast with its pre-evolution Electabuzz, which has higher Special Attack. Its Speed has also suffered a bit, but is still quite decent.
In the anime
Template:Spoiler An Electivire owned by Gary Oak was first seen on the final episode of Pokémon: Battle Frontier. He uses his Electivire, which he got in Sinnoh, to defeat Ash Ketchum's Pikachu in a one-on-one battle. Template:Endspoiler
In the Trading Card Game
There are currently no Electivire cards available outside of Japan. However, two Electivire cards are yet to be released outside of Japan:
- Diamond & Pearl, as Electivire Lv.46, a Lightning-type holographic card (#3)
- Mystery of the Lakes, as Electivire Lv.X, a Lightning-type Pokémon Lv.X card
