Trivia

  • A scratch and sniff card was made specifically for this episode. Various scents were on the card, and when told during the episode, you were supposed to smell the various odors that were on the card, as featured in "Polyester (film)" by Roger Waters.. The cards were distributed in TV Guide magazines.
  • The shot of Earl (see episode picture above) with his hands up in the rain is a takeoff of a scene from the movie The Shawshank Redemption.
  • This episode parodied the movie Rudy. Rudy stared Sean Astin, Charles S. Dutton and Chelcie Ross who were all guest stars in the episode. Two of the most memorable scenes of the film were parodied during this episode (The inspirational speech given by the Dutton, and the players giving up their position on the team for Rudy)
  • Earl notes the constant air conditioning as a benefit of the sales floor. In the film Dogma, Jason Lee's character states that there is no pleasure greater than central air.
  • The video tape Joy recorded her message over apparently had an episode of Yes Dear on it, as the end of the tape a clip from the show is visable. Billy Gardell who appeared on this episode had a recurring role on Yes Dear.
