Matt Shirvington (born 25 October, 1978), also known as Shirvo, is an Australian Olympic athlete and television presenter who held the Australian 100m national sprint title from 1998 to 2002.
He was born in Frenchs Forest, Sydney and now spends his time between Sydney and London.
Shirvington has generally competed in the 100m, 200m and 4 x 100m relay events, finding the most success in the 100m sprint. International events at which he has competed include the 2000 Olympic Games, World Championships since 1999 and the Commonwealth Games of 1998 and 2006[1][2].
From 1998 Shirvington claimed 5 consecutive Australian national titles for the 100m sprint event. In 1998 at the Commonwealth Games he broke an Australian record with a personal best time and fouth place finish of 10.03 seconds in the 100m. This record stood until 2003, when Patrick Johnson achieved a time of 9.93s over 100m[3].
Outside of his sporting career, Shirvington is known as the presenter of the Australian Channel 7 television program Beyond Tomorrow and for his participation in Dancing with the Stars in 2004[4]. Shirvington has been a National Ambassador for CanTeen for a number of years, an Australian support organisation for young children living with cancer.[5].
