"Lice (Invader Zim)"

Lice is an Invader Zim episode, staring Dib and a one-off character Countess Von Verminstrasser. Originally produced as episode 18A, "Lice" aired as episode 17B on April 26, 2002.

Plot

Dib is in front of class, talking about Galileo and how everyone thought that he was crazy, but he turned out to be right. Melvin arrives in class late, with lice in his hair, which quickly spreads to all the children except Zim. Miss Bitters presses a large red button on her desk, activating a teleportation device summoning Countess Von Verminstrasser, the delouser, and her two henchmen. They seal off the building and give a large presentation in front of the school about how they are to remove the lice, and draw attention to the fact that Zim and Miss Bitters have no lice at all, and will be taken for immunity research. The Countess has a theory that there is a lice queen that spreads the lice everywhere. Dib thinks she is crazy, which is somewhat hypocritical seeing on how crazy all of the Skool kids think he is. After a short interlude with Zim and Bitters at "immunisation research", Dib and Melvin (both handcuffed together) attempt to escape the apparently extremely painful delousing process and end up confronting the Countess. The floor caves in, revealing a large tunnel with the 'Queen louse' underneath the Skool. Having found out that Zim's skin kills lice, one of the Countess' henchman gives her a blender-gun hybrid that rips off his skin and fires it at the queen louse, killing it and all its children, saving the school and leaving Zim's lower body without any skin. The episode ends with Ms. Bitters, who never left the room, scratching her head.

Trivia

  • The episode was originally going to be called 'Lice Nazis', but was considered inappropriate. They suggested the name 'Lice of Doom', but as the episode was to be paired with Megadoomer, it was changed to simply Lice.
  • The Queen Louse is a homage to Aliens, which Jhonen is a huge fan of. Countess Vongelmenstrosserliencheteine even says "Close your eyes, baby" as she aims the blender gun at the Queen Louse; a line used by Ellen Ripley in Aliens.
  • Spuddy the Boy Zim was talking to in the previous episode Megadoomer appeared in the Skool but in Megadoomer he claimed that he didn't go to Skool with Zim.
  • The character Countess Vongelmenstrosserliencheteine The Delouser was voiced by Mindy Sterling.
  • Several times, Dib and Melvin are seen stepping directly on the land mines without setting them off; this is likely a mistake on the part of the animators.
