Hi Shannon, Thanks for learning Wikipedia with me and the class. I have moved your workshop notes and all the other content from your talk page to [[User:1013-shannon
I have decided to do my project on The Cross in the Woods, a national out door shrine located in Michigan. This topic deserves a place on Wikipedia because it is a nationally recognized Catholic shrine that has been made to exist with nature. Additionally, there is a great amount of history regarding the construction of the shrine and its meaning. Throughout my article, I plan to talk about the shrine itself and other attractions located at The Cross in the Woods, the history, and the meaning behind everything. I have not found anything on Wikipedia in relation to this topic, so I plan on calling my page Cross in the Woods.

:Thoughts from Josh. Shannon, this sounds like a good project. Are you sure you will be able to find enough material? Remember, your final article needs to be 1500-2000 words of concise encyclopedic material. Some of the articles you plan to use as models are shorter than that, while others are about sites that have a higher national profile. They will be useful in figuring out how to organize your material, but they may not be a good indicator of what kind of material you will be able to dig up. Have you started looking around for research material yet? Will you be able to find any references other than the Cross in the Woods website? If you have any questions about your project proposal, write me a note here, and write "QUESTION FOR JOSH" in the edit summary box when you hit the "save page" button. I'll stop by later to answer. Workshop Guidelines

Hey Shannon! I was just reading your aritcle (which is really good so far!) and I had a thought. Under your Shrines subsection, I was sort of confused about how that relates to the overall project you are doing. I think a sentences or two tying in this section a little more may be beneficial. 1013-alex 17:00, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I've nominated an article you worked on, Cross in the Woods, for consideration to appear on the Main Page as part of Wikipedia:Did you know. You can see the "hook" for the article at Template talk:Did you know#Articles created on April 27 where you can improve it if you see fit. 1013-josh 22:19, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

I thidnk this article is in very good shape. You have the information organized logically, and the history of the site makes for a compelling read. One suggestion I have is to move the "world's largest crucifix" fact up to the lead section, as this seems a significant item that may grab the reader's interest. One piece of information that may be missing is how exactly a religious site goes about becoming recognized as an official shrine. The article makes it seem like it's just kind of a natural progression. You find someplace to build a cross, and then you build it, and then eventually you become a shrine. I'm sure there is more to it than that. The main shortcoming of the article is that it draws most of its information from the shrine's website, but you have done good work compensating for that weakness by citing as many outside references as possible. I think you're ready to move on to other tasks, like placing the article in relevant categories, adding more wikilinks, and rewriting other articles to include wikilinks to your article. You may also contact the folks at Wikipedia:WikiProject Michigan for their feedback and suggestions. Have you tried to track down images that meet Wikipedia's image use policy? Good work. Good morning! This is an incredibly interesting article! I really enjoy the time and effort dedicated to something that hasn't yet been exposed to the wikipedia world yet! It is a very important topic and I can tell you have put a lot of work into this. The facts and relevant information really help build the support behind the importance of the shrine. It looks great so far! Keep it up! 1013-alex 16:03, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Very well done Shannon! Your article looks great, first impressions of the article were very good. It is already organized really well, lots of internal links and they all work. Your footnotes and reference sections all look to be working and ok. You must have either traveled there or found some very good articles about it because the information and facts are very good and well supported. Before you finish we should find a photo of the shrine or nun doll shop thing. Adding a picture I think makes wiki articles look more professional, and gives the feeling of more accurtate information. I will search for some pics if I can. Hi Shannon, I answered your question about how to create category tags here: user talk:1013-josh#Adding categories to your page. 1013-josh 02:46, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

You're on the main page!

Hi Shannon, your article is currently featured on the Main Page of Wikipedia in the "Did You Know?" fact box. It will be up there for the next 6+ hours. You may get some strangers stopping by your article as a result, so check the page history. 1013-josh 01:58, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Good evening! I just did another thorough read through of the article, and I am very impressed. Your content is very entensive and well laid out. The information flows very well. I made a few small inserts that maybe could help clarify or improve flow. Also, when I read through the new material, I was confused on what exactly the Stations of the Cross is. You say what it represents and I know a link is included, however maybe a sentence of two describing what exacting the Stations of the Cross is here would help with overall flow. Best of luck and keep up the great work! 1013-alex 03:17, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

:Good work. In the future, please include a link to the page you edited, so I can follow your work. (In this case, I was able to find it, so no worries this time.) Remember to add a comment to the edit summary box to make it easier for other users to follow your changes. :You're looking pretty good. I see you found some outside sources, which is great. Were you able to dig up anything about the dedication from the shrine from the bishops or from any official Catholic sources? You'll want to reformat your article with section headings, but we'll talk about that today in class. 1013-josh 15:33, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

:I fixed the problem with searching for your article. Wikipedia's search engine isn't very good, and case matters (except for the first letter of the first word). What I did is start articles called Cross in the woods (lowercase "w"), The Cross in the Woods, and The Cross in the woods, and set those up to redirect to your article Cross in the Woods. Now it will be easier to search for. 1013-josh 19:22, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
