Bidirectional sidac is a five layer device, while diacs, depending on manufacturer, can have three or five layers (mesa diacs, lateral diacs). Sicads are frequently referred to by the trade names [[Trisil]], SIDACtor and others. --[[User:83.131.115.112|83.131.115.112]] 11:52, 21 April 2007 (UTC) |

Just want to say that this sentence: ..."functionally equivalent to that of a spark gap or two inverse parallel Zener diodes" leads to the wrong conviction that a zener curve folds back (which is true for sidacs, gaps and diacs)
Yes, shouldn't this sentence read "...similar to two opposed Zener diodes in series."? Changed it. --Chetvorno 07:55, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

- Support They're the same thing. Diac is the only word I've heard until now, so I daresay it's the more popular term. — Omegatron 19:39, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Bidirectional sidac is a five layer device, while diacs, depending on manufacturer, can have three or five layers (mesa diacs, lateral diacs). Sicads are frequently referred to by the trade names Trisil, SIDACtor and others. --83.131.115.112 11:52, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose The article says that, "Its operation is identical to that of the DIAC," which should be corrected since SIDACs and DIACs are different and designed with different functions in mind. Note the difference in the voltage vs current traces between a DIAC and SIDAC on page 5 of this patent. SIDACs are manufactured by a different process for higher current handling and higher breakover voltages. Just to note, a SIDACtor does not have a sharp breakover voltage, sort of like an MOV.
