Kawase Naomi (河瀬直美) (born May 30 1969 in Nara, Japan) is a Japanese film director. Many of her works have been documentaries, including Embracing, about her search for the father her abandoned her as a child, and Katatsumori, about the grandmother her raised her.
Graduated from the Osaka School of Photography (then the School of Visual Arts) in 1989, spent an additional four years there as a lecturer before releasing Embracing. Novelized her film Moe no suzaku and is currently novelizing Firefly.
Kawase has completed production on her fourth full-length film Mogari no Mori, which will have its premiere in June, 2007 in her hometown Nara.
She won the Grand Prix of the 2007 Cannes Film Festival for Mogari no Mori.
