Template:Ship table The second HMAS Warramunga (FFH 152) is an Anzac class frigate, laid down by Tenix Defence Systems at Williamstown in Victoria on 26 July 1997, launched on 23 May 1998 and commissioned on 31 March 2001. '
Operational history
On 31 July 2006 WARRAMUNGA departed Fleet Base West for the Persian Gulf as part of Operation Catalyst taking over duties from HMAS Ballarat. While on station in the Gulf, Warramunga conducted 150 boardings and security patrols, over 1200 boat evolutions, 21 Replenishments at Sea and Vertical Replenishments, 320 flying hours by its embarked Navy Seahawk helicopter and 450 investigative queries of merchant Vessels. Warramunga was away for 186 days travelling around 24981 nautical miles. Warramunga arrived home on 2 February 2007 being replaced by HMAS Toowoomba. This deployment was Warramunga's first deployment to the middle east since her commissioning in 2001. [1]. The ship had previously deployed to Christmas Island as part of Operation Relex II (2001-2005) in a border protection role, the Southern Ocean as part of Operation Celesta in a successful fisheries protection role (2004) and to Hawaii and the South West Pacific in 2003.
HMAS WARRAMUNGA was the first Australian Ship to fire the Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile (ESSM) in 2003.
