Christmas music

Subscript text

I am trying to find an old Christmas song by the title "You are my Christmas, Carol" I do not know the artist. I beliee it was from the 1980's or before.

Thanks, Sooz

I'm not sure it's the same song you're thinking of due to the lack of punctuation but Flipside Records has two songs listed as:

VA 06976 - DOTTIE WEST - YOU ARE MY CHRISTMAS CAROL - CHRISTMAS GREETINGS FROM NASHV - ELEKTRA 5E 554 VA 06977 - DOTTIE WEST - YOU ARE MY CHRISTMAS CAROL - CHRISTMAS GREETINGS FROM NASHV - RCA ANL1 1953

Law & Order episode

Recently I saw a Law & Order episode which reminded me of a case I vaguely recall in the news. Knowing that the show often bases its storylines on the news, I'm sure there is a matching case out there "in real life" and it's REALLY bugging me that I can't find it out. The story is about a minor celebrity guru who kills his girlfriend, "buries" her body behind a fireplace in his apartment, turns fugitive, is tried and found guilty of the murder in abstentia, and then is caught 20 years later, retried and jailed. I recall something like this, maybe in Philadelphia, really happening and a Wikipedia article might exist for it. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could point me to it. 70's horror television movie

I was wondering about the name of an obscure horror/suspense movie shown on television in the early 70's. The climax of the film shows the lead character ( a woman called Jennifer, I believe) running away from this psycho in this farmhouse. She tries to escape the house by running thru the attic which has some mannequins. The psycho chasing her dresses as one of the mannequins and he calls out to her, "Jennifer" and he chases her downstairs. That is all I remember.

Any help would be appreciated.

Starting and Ending times of NFL Games

What time of day are NFL games typically played? If someone could link to a list of the starting and ending times of NFL games going back as many years as possible, that would be great. Canadaprovinces 23:27, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

For many years, the start times have been (in EST) 1:00pm and 4:00pm-ish on Sunday. The 4:00 game is usually 4:05 or 4:15 now because games tend to run over 3 hours. Monday night football has always been 9:00pm from my memory, but appears to be 8:30pm this season. Sunday night football, which is rather recent in NFL history, is at 8:15pm. --Kainaw (talk) 03:14, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'll amend that the times are Eastern Daylight Time during the first half of the season, moving to Eastern Standard Time when the US shifts. Also, the new (and frequently unavailable) Thursday night (and late-season Saturday night) games are, as I recall, at 8:00pm — Lomn 22:23, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm trying to find a list of every single that was ever "sufficiently popular" during 1950-present. A great deal of flexibility about how to define "sufficiently popular", but i'd be shooting at getting the top 50-100 songs of each year. I notice we have a page of List of artists who reached number one on the Hot 100 (U.S.), but I'm looking for something a little more comprehensive than just the people who reached #1.

It looks like there are some printed books that might have this information, but I need the info in digital form, so that doesn't help much. Any idea where I could find some list like this? --Alecmconroy 06:54, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would assume that "sufficiently popular" means they made it on the Billboard chart. So, I would look at the billboard charts. --Kainaw (talk) 14:32, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I look there, but that only gives like 5 songs per year, unless of course you want to purchase some subscription. I wonder if there's any other way. --Alecmconroy 06:00, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In the uk there have been CDs produced every, well every 6 months/year called Now that's what i call music. These only go back to (according to the wikipedia article) 1983 but they should cover that period of popular music. I have seen 'now' spinoffs with years. Try looking on iTunes Music Store as there are a lot of 'compilation' and 'iTunes essentials' on eras/etc. 18:58, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

Marv Thronberry is a MILLER LITE spokesman as far as i know/can find out. all internnet based searches that makes this mich light connection to bucky dent are re-hashes of the wiki entry. is there a listing of mich or miller beer spokesmen or does anyone remember the commercial? if i had to guess, i'd say the enter is definately wrong in some way- perhaps with the brand of beer. but does anyone have anything other than a guess?

Blue Films?

Why Indian people call porn films "Blue films"? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.64.132.56 (talkcontribs)

The article Blue film explains this slightly. Dismas|(talk) 04:07, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Porno films are often called "blue movies" in Australia, for reasons which may or may not be the same as why they're called "blue films" in India. -- JackofOz 06:46, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Dictionary.com lists as one of the meanings of the adjective "blue": "indecent; somewhat obscene; risqué: a blue joke or film."[1]  --LambiamTalk 23:44, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This question might do better at the language desk, but the derivation suggested in the blue film article is nonsense. The OED records the use of "blue" to mean indecent as far back as 1864. In the publishing/printing industry, a blue pencil has long been used to censor material from manuscripts. This highlights the material while still allowing it to be read. (By contrast, a red pencil was used to indicate corrections.) If a manuscript had a lot of blue pencil on it, it might be said in slang terms to be blue, meaning it would have to be heavily censored. This meaning later came to be transferred to indecent films.--Shantavira|feed me 07:49, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sky on fire film

Hello,

Trying to recall the name of a lousy sci-fi movie made either in the 1950s or 1960s. The premise of the film was that somehow the atmosphere had caught on fire. I vaguely recall that atomic weapons were either the cause of the fire or were used to put it out. Does anyone know which film this was? Thanks! W. B. Wilson 05:21, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hockey players fighting

I regularly see North American ice hockey players fighting on TV and in some games, life bars included, suggesting this is sort of part of the show itself. Physical aggressions are very bad regarded in most sports but in this one this doesn't seem to be the case. Why is that? --Taraborn 14:34, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

too complicated a question. the short answer is tradition. 'twas the way it was. attempts to limit the fights or the people involved in figths (from fights happening involving just about anyone towards a semi-staged "enforcers" fighting each other, to revisions going in place next season that change the penalties involved that may increase fights). traditionally those people for fights in hockey will argue that allowing players to handle cheep shots and abuse on the ice via the traditional fight will produce positive effect in keeping the game clean, limit penalties and reduce ugly plays (spearing, slew footing, hacking, etc). opponents of the fights might point out "fights" as a top reason most non hockey fans decline to watch the game, the negative image the NHL gets from the few highlights that are shown, etc. you are likely better off finding a fuller discussion about this topic off wiki. many ameican sports sites that have solid hockey coverage will have archival stories for and against the state of fighting in the game. and many fan sites will have had long discussion on the pros and cons of the NHL and its evolving fighting rules. ultimately you have to remember, in most sports fighting will get you tossed out of the game, fined, and suspended. it will also often hurt your team. in hockey (ignoring the instigation rule for a second) all you get it a 5 minute sit down, and if your opponent fought back, there is no negative to your team at all.Childhoodtrauma 16:19, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

American Idol Season 3 - Hawaii

I absolutely loved this one Hawaiian girl from American Idol Season 3. She did not make it through the Hawaiian auditions, but she probably should have. John Wayne

My memory may be playing a trick on me but I distinctly remember seeing a movie in which John Wayne played a Sea Captain in the South Seas in the late 19th century becomes an heir to a Boston Forturne. A condition of the fortune being dispersed to the Sea Captain is that a unimpeachable source, after investigation, certifies to the trustees of the fortune that the Sea Caption is in full conformity with proper Boston Morality. The delegate despatched by the trustees to conduct the investigation is a young, single, very proper but very beautiful woman.

I have been unable to find any record of such a movie, and that is driving me nuts.

Can any of you help me by telling me the name? Even if it is ot a John Wayne movie, can you tell me who the male character was played by, and the name of the movie.

Thanks for your help!

Bill Gill email: [email address removed]

You're thinking of Donovan's Reef, but a lot of the details are incorrect. The film takes place after World War II. Wayne plays a former US navy man, but not a captain. The heir to the fortune (actually controlling shares in a shipping company) is his friend, Doc Dedham (Jack Warden). The proper Boston woman who investigates turns out to be Dedham's daughter. I'm looking for a dog movie that I saw in the mid-1990s. He was a brown and black vicious dog named MAX HE cause a lot of trouble. And in one scene he battles a guy in a mechanic shop. At the end of the movie hes electrocuted. But then they show a female dog he was with having puppies and one of them looks like him. Thanks guys. --Gary123 Apply now, exciting opportunities available at Continental Op Detective Agency! 19:54, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Song title sought

Slow to mid-tempo alt.rock song with male vocalist, the only line I can remember is "and put an end to my suffering". Any ideas? --Richardrj talk email 04:32, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How about we start with every emo song ever and narrow down the list from there? -- Phoeba WrightOBJECTION! 13:28, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Doesn't quite match the lyrics, but Belfast Child is my guess.  Sʟυмgυм • т  c  20:01, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Song

Which song is this? The lyrics go like this: Take a look at my girlfriend, she's the only one I've got. Not much of a girlfriend..."

click here [2] and all will be revealed Perry-mankster 12:55, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
(after edit conflict) That would be "Breakfast in America" by Supertramp. You could have easily found that out for yourself by Googling the lines, btw. --Richardrj talk email 12:58, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
methinks the OP meant the song that uses the supertramp song as a sample, but i may be wrong ;) Perry-mankster 13:56, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Which is Cupid's Chokehold, by Gym Class Heroes (which, in my mind, completely ignores the meaning of the lines they sample). Adam Bishop 15:26, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I need help with Zelda: Parallel Worlds

I need help with completing the game (rom hack) "Zelda: Parallel Worlds". Where is the item in the second light world dungeon (Din's Catacombs)? A map would be helpful. I tried to download the walkthrough but it didn't work. Help please? 71.34.240.223 18:40, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

We don't really help with game questions ... have you tried GameFAQs? Neil  20:06, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not on GameFAQs. It's a heavily modified version (rom hack) of Zelda 3. If not here, where should I ask? 71.34.240.223 20:26, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
http://www.filehosting.cc/?d=DC7E93E33 - or is this the version you tried to download? Neil  20:33, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
And the item in Din's catacombs is the Goron bracelet - it's in the room where you had to use the Pegasus Boots to get a key; there's a wall with cracks in it. Bomb at the right place and you will find the chest. Neil  20:34, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Note that normally we always send people to GameFAQs. I only helped because it's not on there. Neil  20:35, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. That was the version of the walkthrough that I tried to get, but it didn't work...

Music from a video
