Dream Team was a British television series produced by Hewland International and aired by Sky One and Sky Three, that chronicles the on-field and off-field affairs of the fictional Harchester United F.C..
A significant part of the action, including game play, is shot at The New Den, the home ground of the Football League One club Millwall.
The series is currently in its 10th and final season. Although the show has had a long and successful run, its viewing figures have been in decline recently and the cancellation of the show has been announced. The final ever episode is to be screened June 3rd 2007.
The club is based in the fictional town of Harchester (which is said to be close to Tamworth) in the West Midlands. The most popular stars of the show are Alison King who plays Lynda Block and Terry Kiely who played Karl Fletcher.
Season 2006/2007
The final season is coming to a head at Harchester United as the gates at the Dragon's Lair, the home of fictional UK football team Harchester United, open for one last time. The future of the team is uncertain, despite winning the FA Cup last season. Will Liam MacKay be able to play football again after fighting a lifetime ban? With Ashleigh King being revealed as Casper Rose's murderer, will his brother Eugene ever find out that it was his other brother - Alex Dempsey - who killed him?
A new arrival takes charge at the club as Jimmy Craig becomes manager, and brings his 18 year old daughter, Gemma, with him.
Jason Porter, who has been a life-long fan and season ticket holder, is now on the pitch trying to take Harchester to the top.
After it was announced that the show was ending with season 10, the series has lost many influential characters, including Alex Dempsey, Lynda Block, Ryan Naysmith and Ashley King. This gives the impression that Dream Team will lose most of its planned scripts, at least for the early part of the season.

Karl Fletcher
Arguably the most famous character in Dream Team was Karl Fletcher (played by Terry Kiely), who became the series' stalwart character, remaining a fixture in the cast from the beginning of season 1 through to the end of season 8. During his tenure with Harchester, Fletch was briefly promoted to manager, became a father, married (and divorced) physiotherapist Abi Fletcher, and was briefly jailed. At the end of season 8, he was finally killed by deranged manager Don Barker.
The death of Fletch was seen by many as a desperate attempt to boost falling ratings, but in truth lay in the fact that Kiely wanted to pursue other projects (namely Channel 5 soap-opera Family Affairs) and had grown tired with the character. Fletcher (or 'Fletch' as he was affectionately known) remained the most popular character throughout the entire show, topping the popularity ratings each year until the character's death.
On Easter Sunday 2007 Fletch returned to haunt Jason Porter after Jason world started to fall apart and as before Fletch was up to his old tricks by taunting Jason saying he's not good enough to play for Harchester and then disappears.
It is expected for Fletch to appear in every episode to the end of series 10.
Acting Career Launches
Dream Team managed to open promising careers to more actors than any other dramas which aired on Sky One. Alison King (who played Lynda Block) starred in BBC One's sitcom Help! as one of the primary cast members and also appeared in numerous amount of supporting and leading roles in independent films, some receiving international attentions. She made her first official appearance as a regular cast member in UK's primetime soap drama, Coronation Street in December 2006, playing Carla Connor.
Other Dream Team actors of note include Nathan Constance (Leon Richards), who played Ian Walmsley on Footballers Wives; Robert Kazinsky (Casper Rose), currently playing Sean Slater on EastEnders; and Ricky Whittle (Ryan Naysmith) and Jamie Lomas (Alex Dempsey/Rose), both of who star in Hollyoaks.
In the United States, Ed Sanders (Eddie Moliano) appears on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and will host the gameshow National Bingo Night. He was also the host of the UK version of Fear Factor after leaving Dream Team
Foreign Audience
In the United States, Fox Soccer Channel (like Sky, a part of News Corporation) airs the series several series behind Sky One; the sixth season began broadcasting on Thursdays at 9pm ET on August 23, 2006. Series is currently aired in Serbia, on Studio B television, and in Montenegro on TV In.
Differences to the real world
- In 1999, Manchester United won a historic treble, winning the Premier League, F.A. Cup & Champions League. In the show, this never occurred as Harchester defeated Manchester United in the F.A. Cup Final.
- In 2005, West Ham United won promotion to the Premiership by defeating Preston North End in the Championship play-off final, however, in the show, this was seen as Harchester beating The Hammers (using footage from the previous year's play-off final when West Ham had lost to Crystal Palace).
- In 2006 Liverpool won the F.A. Cup, beating West Ham United in the final, and Manchester United won the League Cup, beating Wigan Athletic in the final. In the show Harchester won the F.A. Cup after beating Arsenal, having been runners-up to Chelsea in the League Cup final earlier that season.
In the spin off - Dream Team 80's - Harchester United won the first division trophy in 1985/86 season. In real life, Liverpool won the league and completed a league and cup double (which did not happen in the world of DT).
