== External Links Ireland. ==

Hello,

I have tried to include external links going to my website, but they have been removed a few minutes after. I was wondering if I didn't follow Wikipedia's regulations in doing so. If that is the case, may I know what Wikpedia's rules are?

Here is the external link that I wanted to add. If you read it, you will notice that I put Wikipedia in the references section.

Thank you.

My user and talk pages attract a lot of vandals - it kinda goes with the job. If you have reverted vandalism here, please understand that while I really appreciate you doing this, I'll probably not be able to reply to you for a whole bunch of reasons. But I do appreciate it!

Lightvessels in Ireland

The memory is not so bad because I remembered you are a member of the Irish Maritime WikiProject, so you might have some non-admin interest in this topic. After I disagreed with Frelke's merge tags on Lightvessels in Ireland and Lighthouses in Ireland there has been no response, by him or anyone else, for two months, so I removed the tags and added info on the lightvessels as mentioned in my oppose justification. However, what else do you think we can add to improve the article without violating copyright of the CII from this webpage? I also need to get some info on the last lightvessel that I believe was located at "South Rock" but was supposed to be withdrawn this year. Any pointers? Cheers & thanks. ww2censor 03:10, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi there. I'll try to take a look at it during the week. Hopefully, I'll get a bit on non-admin work done & maybe re-kickstart WP:IMAR again. BTW - I'll be back in Ireland in less than 4 weeks & hope to get some good maritime pics during that time - Alison 18:34, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • Thanks. If I knew more I would get involved in the WP:IMAR but already have 2 projects I am involved in. I'll be back in Ireland, for good or just visiting? Can I come? I was there for 2 days in March and go a few good Martello tower photos that I have still to put up. I could do with more if you happen to see any. Where are you going to? ww2censor 03:39, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, just seen the site in question has a story about the article being "unlocked", hence the activity... --Steve (Stephen) talk 10:08, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yep! Good call on reprotecting. Hopefully, semi will hold it this time - Alison 14:34, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Immediate blocking

May I just point out that not everyone is fully aware of the entire expected wikipedia etiquette, and immediately blocking someone who trangresses, unknowingly, without first giving them a detailed warning, is entirely unfair, and also somewhat immature? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.245.136.27 (talkcontribs)

  • May I just point out that calling someone a "fucking cunt" and a "stupid fucking prick" is also somewhat immature and, depending on the circumstances, will sometimes get you a short block. Doing it in RL to someone will sometimes get you a punch on the nose. I'd have thought these things would be self-evident. Thanks - Alison 14:32, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Urgent message

Can you please revert This article back to what it was before the templates were added, the seeding has gone, now it is very empty, thankyou comment made by Charlie 16:29, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi there. I'm not quite sure what you want me to do here, as I'm not familiar with the subject matter. However, you should be able to rollback to the revision you want yourself by clicking on the 'history' tab and editing the revision you desire. Gazzo Macee article

I noticed there wasn't this article so when I started to create it I noticed you had deleted a previous one? Any reason why that means I shouldn't recreate it or was it just deleted because it was a really small stub? Can't really tell what the original page says and unless you have the reason saved in a log somewhere, not sure if i should create the article or not. Thanks! Deflagro 19:17, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi there and thanks for asking :) It was deleted 6 weeks back as it was considered a non-notable biographical stub article. By all means, create the article but you'll need to establish notability and flesh it out a lot. I've undeleted it here, so you can work on it yourself from what was there before :) Let me know if you need any help - Alison 19:39, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Heh. Didn't realize you responded because I forgot who I asked! I noticed it later on Here and looked at the History and found myself back here! The reason I asked is on the magic (illusion) there is a list of people and this name and some others didn't have articles. Just tryin to help out! Thanks again. (btw if you reply can you do so on my talk? I will probably forget your name again!) Deflagro 00:00, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't forget your name this time! Could you glance at it and see how it is? I added more to it and also added several references. It's still a stub kinda but I can't find much more without going to the bookstore! I guess you can either reply here, my talk page, or on the article's talk page. (the article is still here) Deflagro 01:17, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Heh. Yep, stole that style. Gonna work on my own but never used Div before >_< Did you get a chance to look at the stub (article?)? Deflagro 02:48, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Noticed your block change on the above. Good call - I was unaware of the Bess thing - Alison 19:21, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair point

Well it was, but as I explained on his talk page his comment was made at 21:16, the same time as my edit so I didn't remove his intentionally. I'm just pissed off with people that can't see bigger pictures and are intent on wasting two days arguing over the spelling of someone's name. One Night In Hackney303 21:57, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • You'll be hearing from his solicitor! Now I'm sure that on this occasion this didn't happen (perish the thought!) but most articles in Who's Who or Debrett's Peerage tend to be total hagiographies written by the subject bereft of any negative information whatsoever. It is being vandalized again by someone you previously blocked. 65.13.58.108 / 66.184.162.219 he has also been contacting me on my talk page. Is there anything that can be done? thanks.Callelinea 22:26, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • It looks like a content dispute, right now. However, the messages on your talk page aren't helping. If they keep at it, please let me know and I'll fully-protect the article to get them to the talks table. I know you've asked about this before but let's give it one more shot - Alison 22:45, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, though I'm in an edit war with this user, can you explain this username block? I may be missing an allusion here. I did a google search, though I wasn't a bit surprised to find this user on other forums, with the title "banned user" (he may have added it in jest though), but also to find out he's been in conflicts before - he clearly has a different opinion than I on matters (even in those forums), but it seems he's editting in good faith. • You weren't banned, but you were blocked from editing for a while. Something to do with engaging in vandalism with your pal User:Sgt kadm. Apparently, you both have an interest in homosexuality, judging from your edits. That's all very nice but it hardly belongs in the shark article, now does it? Either way, you now get a second chance at editing :) - Alison 04:25, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

3rr warning

I purposely stopped reverting in spite of revert warring by Komdori and Lactose on that article. I have also participate in the talk page and am continuing to do so. However Komdori and Lactose have followed my edit and instigated revert wars as retaliation for our disagreements from a different article. They have partnered up and have been engaging in gamesmanship in the talk page instead of discussing the substantive topic of the article such as setting up a straw poll, claiming they have majority, etc.. There was a discussion going on but they've stopped responding and participating in the talk page and have started to revert again. Can you let me know how you became involved in this? Thanks.melonbarmonster 19:21, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Help in Reporting an Editor

Greetings Alison.

I'm not sure exactly how to go about this but I would like to report an editor for unreasonable edit warring.

The editor in question is The Evil SpartanOver the last few weeks I have been spending a lot of time in good faith cleaning up the article Christianity_by_country

The The Evil Spartan was trying to include figures in the totals for the table that were not the summation of the table. I asked him if he could not do this but he continued to revert. I have taken him/her under good faith up until now. Tonight I spent a good few hours checking all the maths for the table and even found proper sources for most of the figures listed. I updated the page. Then another user User:Yom did some edits and I Improved Yom 's edits futher. I even, out of curtesy, informed The Evil Spartan of my work. I had even included some sources from the CIA factbook which was Evil Spartans wish.

Then to my horror I found The evil Spartan had stomped in and reverted not only all my hard wrork but that of the user Yom as well.

Sorry to burdon you with this, but I really feel this editor's approach with this page is unnacceptable. Can you please advise me how to report this editor properly. If this means contacting an adminstrator then please consider him reprted. Thankyou :) Smeggypants 23:45, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, which I told you was a mistake, my last reversion: [3] (not that you seem to care). I'll even tell you to report me: WP:ANI. And they will immediately tell you what this is: a content dispute, and they'll do nothing about it. The Evil Spartan 23:49, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and BTW, you were told to stop editing by the person who unblocked you until you could get another username, which you have completely ignored. The Evil Spartan 23:50, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. Unfortunately, you've been abusing your unblock. I've re-blocked your account. You know what you need to do now as I've left a message on your talk page. When you get back, we'll deal with the above issue - Alison 00:01, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, Sorry there Alison, I failed to see that I couldn't continue editing under the same name. I can see that message from Steve now on my page. I didn't "completely ignore" any requests as accused by the tone of Evil Spartan. As said I m happy not to edit under the name of smeggypants anymore. today was an oversight. Sorry again. :) 90.242.39.46 00:39, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No problem at all. Just keep editing under you IP address, for the moment, or create a new account. Your username is the only thing that's blocked here, not you personally - Alison 01:00, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

What edits? 02:02, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi Alison I was told to contact you by Miranda. She is helping me with a criticism I am writing up for the fark.com entry. I expect it will be vandalized quite quickly. I think she was looking out for me. I have no idea what I am doing but it is good to know there are people who want to stick up for factual content even though it might annoy some people! Any criticisms you have to offer would be most appreciated! Rhonda Faethe 02:08, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also Alison - I went ahead and edited the Shadowban page to reflect more sources. This was my entry in case it gets vandalized by tommorow:

The weird-news-aggregation community website Fark employs the practice; community backlash against this and other practices by administrators and/or moderators spawned the creation of a similar website called banniNation, which attempts to avoid such methods.

Another way to shadow ban someone is to use the Global ignore feature included with vBulletin community forum software. According to vBulletin's website, "This feature Global ignore user aka 'Tachy goes to Coventry' - when enabled all posts by the specified user will be ignored/unseen by other members. Automatically added to the all users ignore lists." [1] . vBulletin forum administrators use Global ignore to hide posts from disruptive users who may otherwise react publicly to being banned, or create legal issues for other users of the website. An example of this is found on The Admin Zone[2]. In response to a question concerning the moderation of a user creating legal issues for an animal care forum, an administrator posted "My 2 cents: Disable her account or put her on global ignore. To me the issue isn't this kid, but your community. Is this the best thing for your community letting her posts, her story, her odd status...take over your community that you spend so much time and effort keeping up and running and civil?"[3].

Discussions concerning the Global ignore feature in vBulletin go back as far as August of 2000[4]. The use of this feature was viewed as a way to alienate a user from the rest of the community by causing the least amount of disruption. In a forum post, vBullletin member Sharg states that “Global ingore is really great. Even if you want to keep your database out of trash wluke. Cause by time the ingored user will get sick of posting and being ignored by eveybody so he will simply leave the board then once he leave you can delete all his posts.”[5].

On WebmasterWorld[6] on January 3, 2006 a discussion thread was started concerning the Washington Post turning off comments during an ongoing discussion. Forum member HughMungus offered this advice on Global ignore:

...instead of deleting accounts or banning people, you trick the bad apples such that they think they can still post and they see their posts with everybody else's posts, but in fact they're the only ones who can see their posts.[7]

When applied to public forums, Global ignore is used as a tool to moderate discussions by 'shadowing' disruptive users. In the case of Fark, 'shadowbanning' has been used to mask contributory comments due to their content[8]. It has also been applied to members of the subscription service Totalfark without their knowledge[9]. This would appear to conflict with a members expectation of open participation in “TotalFark discussions,” which are submitted links not meant to be greenlighted, but rather commented on and discussed by TotalFark members only”. Copt page-protection

Hello Alison- You said that there was not enough recent activity to justify semi-protecting the article Copt at the moment. Could you tell me how to deal with the banned user who keeps coming back? So far, he's edited as 74.0.147.42 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log), Impartiallaw (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) and CopticFreedom (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log). — Zerida 18:08, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • You're still very much at the revert-warn-report stage on this one. If he's persistent and is creating many socks to vandalise, you might want to take a look at WP:RFCU to have a checkuser done. I note that at least one of the editors above had never been warned about their behaviour - Alison 18:11, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I filed the first CheckUser request myself, am I justified in filing another one if it continues? — Zerida 18:26, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, though it's largely fallen out of use these days. Haven't heard that in years ... - Alison 20:29, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
(Scuse the lurking :O)) But, back in the day, and the day was in the 80's, I was definitely called a mullah (and indeed a bogger). Although I don't hold it against all jackeens or anything. FlowerpotmaN (t · c) 20:57, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I see, thanks. I've added it to the article. The Behnam 21:20, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Smeggypants-Vexorg-Unblock?

Greetings Alison.

My old 'offending username smeggypants has now been changed to Vexorg, but I find I am still blocked under the name Smeggypants. I have put in some unblocking requests but other admins can't seem to unblock me.  Netsnipe  ►  made some commnets on my talk page. Any chance you can look into it - note: The block is still under my old username Smeggypants ... Cheers :) Vexorg - currently logged out so I can talk 84.65.221.19 20:39, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WOO HOO!! - Works now!! Thanks very much - Back in business!! Cheers!!! :) :) :) Vexorg 20:51, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your confirmation here would be appreciated, assuming you're in agreement of course.... One Night In Hackney303 15:35, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

 Done Thanks, ONiH. Blocked - Alison 18:56, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have thought about bringing up the issue on his talk page, and so have other users. He is not Wikignoming and removing "uncited" and "irrelevant" text - a simple check of his talk page, and what he has actually edited and changed can see that!! Hell, he's even deleted ENTIRE ARTICLES and has been cited for it in the past.

It is obvious that this user is a vandal - a deaf/blind/mute could even see that!

As for calling him "names" - I just call 'em as I see 'em. --Mr. Brown 15:58, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Could you have a look at this AIV report, and issue a block if appropriate. Thanks. Jehochman Talk 16:34, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Allie - not counting images, the WP:CSD backlog is currently zero.--Anthony.bradbury 19:05, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Aww

File:GuinnessPint.JPGYour very busy with socks. Needs some cooling down? And I thank you for existence because I have a nice signature now :). This is why I award you a Guinesss :) --SWEETCARMEN 19:12, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A Guinness? I'm so jealous. —  $PЯINGrαgђ  20:22, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry, Springeragh, I'll give you one ;). Ali, are you going back to Ireland to get your Guinness? I need to stay sober for the next 4 years, thought :(. --SWEETCARMEN 20:47, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I love Guinness—and I don't even drink! How's that? :P —  $PЯINGrαgђ  20:50, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you don't drink, then I guess I don't need to give you a Guinness. Wanna another Alison? You can have Springeragh's :). --SWEETCARMEN 21:33, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I could keep the glass as a souvenir. :P I'm 100% Irish as it is. ;) —  $PЯINGrαgђ  21:34, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Moles

Dear Clarice Allie: Congrats on catching User:Durovina. It's not as if he/she left any clues. Some of these moles just won't be whacked, eh. Heh.

Yours,

Dr. Lect Robert.

Btw: you fibbed about being a Catholic. You could have told me it was none of my business, which you could/should have done, but you insisted on denying it more than once. And then I go and see "Czech-Irish-Catholic-atheist-anime...". Sad, but not to worry I never believed you on that point, anyway (LOL). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.194.20.245 (talkcontribs) You need to work on your subtlety, Robert. And no, still not Catholic, not that it's any of your business or anything - Alison 01:03, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wishbone Ash

Hey there! Since you were the one who authorized the WP:RFP on Wishbone Ash, if you could take a look at Incidents#Wishbone Ash and perhaps comment, it would be appreciated. Thanks! -- moe.RON Let's talk | done 01:08, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Rfa

Nah, go ahead and kill it. I've already said so on the page. I'm not entirely sure how creating something makes you your creation. Probably better to move on. --Wikihermit (TalkHermesBot) 03:46, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nah, again. People usually don't get over a user being "anti gay," which I clearly am not. New account where I can contribute without problems. --Wikihermit (TalkHermesBot) 03:55, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It wasn't the best decision, however & I personally find it offensive (I'm bi). I believe that faux pas will be largely forgotten in a few weeks, though, and it would be a pretty churlish editor who would bring it up at a subesquent RfA. If you do go with a new account, do keep in touch. You know where I am ... - Alison 04:00, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's just German... "The Paul, The"... ;) oh never mind. Flyguy649talkcontribs 05:22, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

o_O .. was he reported for username? I just blocked him for blatant 3RR! - Alison 05:24, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I saw the name at UAA and I immediately thought of the Simpsons! Flyguy649talkcontribs 05:30, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Noticed that you blocked User:Diepauldie for one day as a result of a WP:3RR violation. Was this because of the listing on WP:UAA? If it was, just curious about your opinion on the appropriateness of the username, and whether it violated WP:UN by promoting violence. Thanks, Leuko 05:23, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It wasn't as a result of a WP:UAA listing. Hmmm .... I've seen worse usernames, though. Have you thought about WP:RFCN? - Alison 05:25, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, it's not the worst thing I've seen, but not necessarily appropriate either. I'll take it to WP:RFCN. Thanks, Leuko 05:29, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Plain old barnstar...

Fire Star 火星 awards this Barnstar to Alison for tireless anti-vandalism work, making Wikipedia better for everyone.

Brock Lesnar page protection.

Please reconsider your decline of it being unprotected and please take a closer look at it's purported justification for being totally protected. There is no justification as far as I can tell and the explanations given simply aren't occurring. There is no "continued" vandalizing by anyone. It was unprotected on the 7th of June and then re-protected the same day with the assertion that it was being vandalized. The purported vandalism were 2 edits made by anonymously IP's. The first one was copyrighted material (not vandalism) and the second one was fixing the format of the article (not vandalism). It was then subsequently re-protected with the assertion it was being vandalized.Wikidudeman (talk) 08:10, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm saying that conclusions were jumped to after it was un-protected a few days ago. The two IP edits clearly weren't vandalism. The first was a copyright issue and the second wasn't anything but fixing of the format. If he comes to vandalize the page then we revert the vandalism and ban that account. We can't simply protect a page as a 'precautionary' measure against possible future vandalism. Wikidudeman (talk) 10:48, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there, co-nominator and fellow admin! Say, what are these buttons doing here—what am I supposed to do with them? :D Seriously, I can't thank you enough for picking this one up. I only hope I won't screw up too much now! Fvasconcellos (t·c) 16:30, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for commenting on my RfA, which closed successfully with a tally of 76/0/1! I hope I will meet your expectations, and be sure I will continue trying to be a good editor as well as a good administrator :) If I may be of any assistance to you in the future (or if you see me commit some grievous error :), please drop me a line on my Talk page.

Again, thank you, and happy editing! Fvasconcellos (t·c) 17:12, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Obsession with my Tiki?

User:Posttraumatic only contributes to my talk page, constantly wanting me to upload a picture of my dog. I'm suspicious, would this to a block or warning? --SWEETCARMEN 19:27, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
