Michael Herrera, a.k.a Mr.Nica was born in Leon, Nicaragua. He arrived to Canada at the age of 2 years old. He lived in Scarborough, Ontario very shortly then moved to Hamilton. Mr.Nica was very influenced by artists such as Vico C, and Tempo. However he didn't realize that he had the talent to rap and sing reggaeton until the age of 15. The first type of music that Mr.Nica started off creating was Latin hip-hop.
Mr.Nica was blessed by being raised in a Christian Family and he started developing his talent that God had given him in Church. At the age of 17, he discovered the magnificent art of freestyling. He then left back to Nicaragua with his family to visit for the very first time. Mr.Nica picked up Reggaeton and started off with a new flow that would develop and that would also be a versatile rhythm to the talent that he already had.
On January 17 2004, Bernice Herrera (Michael's mother) passed away in Nicaragua. After the funeral Michael Herrera, along with many family members suffered an almost greater loss. A bus crash that took the lives of 12 people, and leaving more injured. Michael almost lost his life that same night, instantly he recognized his true purpose in life. To live out his passion for reggaeton and contribute his great talent to the world.
Months later Mr. Nica met Kevin Hall, the owner of The Jump Off, a major hip hop clothing outlet stretching from Toronto to St. Catherines. Kevin Hall recognized Michael's talent and soon he became his manager. With the help of Kevin Hall, Mr. Nica has successfully become a rising star in Hamilton. Mr. Nica has been recognized in the community as a living legend and Hamilton's Finest Reggaeton Artist. To this day, Mr. Nica has performed in numerous concerts and major events, and has recorded with well known reggaeton Record labels. The lyrics and positive messages in Mr. Nica's songs are extremely unique and make him a person worthy of recognition in the Latin community.
