Their three highest-charting singles in the US, "Light My Fire", "Hello, I Love You" and "Touch Me", have all been certified Gold in the US by the RIAA. This seems to be in the old definition of Gold, that is a million copies sold, as opposed to the current value of a Gold record, which is 500,000 sold. In No One Here Gets Out Alive it is reported that "Light My Fire" sold over a million copies in the US, and as it appears by looking at the cerifications, the same goes for "Hello, I Love You" and "Touch Me", giving The Doors a total of three million-selling singles in the US.

Remixes

The Doors have recently allowed several dance/electronic music producers to remix their songs. Many believe that this is to introduce their music to a new generation. The remixes and their appearances are:

  • The 2002 compilation 'The Best of the Doors' was released with a Limited Edition Bonus Disc featuring several remixes of 'Riders on the Storm': Baez & Cornell 'Tunnel' Club Mix; Nightmares on Wax Remix; Ibizarre Remix, and; Spacebats Remix.
  • Snoop Dogg vs. The Doors - "Riders on the Storm (Fredwreck Remix)" Appeared in the video game Need for Speed Underground 2.
  • The Doors - "L.A. Woman (Paul Oakenfold Remix)" appears on the mix album "Perfecto Presents: The Club".
  • BT vs. The Doors - "Break On Through (To The Other Side)" Originally released as an iTunes exclusive download, this remix also made an appearance on the Burnout Revenge soundtrack.
  • The Doors - "Roadhouse Blues (The Crystal Method Remix)" made its debut on "Community Service II" by The Crystal Method.
  • "Roadhouse Blues" was also remixed with John Lee Hooker on the album "Stoned Immaculate"
  • The Doors - "Hello, I love You (Adam Freeland Mix)". This remix has yet to be released, but can be heard on Adam Freeland's myspace. Freeland recently won a Grammy for his remixing work on Sarah Vaughan's "Fever". Freeland was personally requested to remix "Hello, I love You".
  • The Doors - "Strange Days (Thievery Corporation Mix)" This remix is released on Thievery Corporations "Versions" on May 16, 2006.
  • On the Album Freekshow by Twiztid, a remake of "People Are Strange", in 2000
  • There's a mash-up of the Doors with Blondie entitled "Rapture Riders", which was actually authorized by the Doors.
  • There is also a bootlegged mash-up of "Flashdance" by Deep Dish and "Riders on the Storm" called "Stormy Dance".

Samples

  • Hip hop artist Jay-Z sampled The Doors' "Five to One" in "The Takeover" on The Blueprint album in 2001.
  • Artist Mos Def, in what is considered a parody on "The Takeover," also sampled "Five to One" on his song "The Rape Over" from his 2004 album The New Danger.
  • The music from "Peace Frog" (originally titled "Abortion Stories") was sampled by rappers 3rd Bass as the title track from their album "The Cactus"
  • DJ Lethal sampled "When The Music's Over" for a track on his upcoming solo album. The song features rapping from Cypress Hill.
  • Fatboy Slim sampled "Bird of Prey" on his song entitled "Sunset" on the album "Halfway Between the Gutter and the Stars".
