Template:Future-sport The 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup season is scheduled to begin on Saturday, February 9 with the annual Bud Shootout at Daytona International Speedway, followed the following day by pole qualifying for the 2008 Daytona 500, which will celebrate its 50th running on February 18. The season will continue with the Chase for the NEXTEL Cup beginning in mid-September of that year and concluding with the Ford 400 sometime in November 2008. Due to the merger in 2006 of Sprint and NEXTEL, NASCAR's premier series will be known as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series for the 2008 season and beyond.
