Angels & Airwaves

Angels & Airwaves is an alternative rock band that was formed by former blink-182 and Box Car Racer guitarist/vocalist Tom DeLonge after he left blink-182. The band includes the Over My Dead Body, Hazen Street and Box Car Racer guitarist David Kennedy, and current Offspring drummer Atom Willard. They released their first single, "The Adventure", on May 18, 2006 and their debut album, We Don't Need to Whisper, on May 23, 2006. Bassist Ryan Sinn, formerly of The Distillers left the band in early 2007. In his place the band hired former 30 Seconds to Mars bassist Matt Wachter. The band is currently recording their sophomore album I-Empire which is expected to be released in autumn 2007.

Sinn departure and I-Empire

Angels and Airwaves is currently back in the studio preparing its second album. Resting Bird is working on "a new video that will introduce all of AVA's fans to the new album ... before any video updates are posted from the studio, you will see a visual representation of what this album is about." [1]

On April 23, 2007, bassist Ryan Sinn's 28th birthday, it was announced that he did not play a free Earth Day concert at the M.I.T. campus the day before (April 22, 2007) due to difficulties with the band. Following this incident, on May 15, 2007, Sinn posted on the Army of Angels fan club message board stating that indeed it was true he is no longer part of Angels & Airwaves. He was said to have received a call on the evening of April 19, 2007 concluding his relationship with the band. [2]

DeLonge has since talked about Sinn's departure, telling Kerrang "He's a really great person and a really great bass player. But we had different priorities and he had things going on in his life that he needed to take care of. The rest of us were relying on him to tackle those things, but he couldn't do it. And so it put him into a defensive position."

Matt Wachter, previously of 30 Seconds to Mars, covered for him for the tour and later was confirmed as a permanent member of Angels and Airwaves.

In an interview with alternative radio on 20 May 2007, DeLonge said that the album was 60-70% complete and that the record should be out in September or October 2007. Tom also stated that the album would continue the element of the first album but "times ten." On 28 May 2007, videos were posted on the official website answering questions from fans.

On 30 May 2007, Tom Delonge stated in an interview with Kerrang that the new album would be titled I-Empire and would be released on Universal/Island records.[3]

The band is scheduled to play on the Main Stage at the Reading and Leeds Festival in the UK in late August 2007. +44, the band containing the other two members of blink-182, will also play at the festival. The band will also play a one-off show at the London Astoria on August 24th.

Recently, a video containing music from the upcoming album was leaked on YouTube by the Army of Angels, but it was quickly taken down.

On 18 June 2007, the band released a newly designed website depicting a motorcyclist and a flash application with flashing text including "I-Empire, Fall 2007". The flash application also plays a short music clip, presumably from "I-Empire", along with a portion of the message from President Eisenhower via the Project SCORE Satellite in 1958. The portion of this message included on the website was "Through the marvels of scientific advance, my voice is coming to you from a satellite traveling in outer space... Through this unique means I convey to you and all mankind, America's wish for peace on Earth" The flash application ends with the quotation "If I had my own world... I'd build you an empire..."[4]
