A Soft Box is a shroud that goes around a light source forcing the light through a fabric diffuser. The inside of the box is usually aluminum foil lined, acting as a reflector. The diffuser can be removed allowing the light source to be used alone or with an umbrella reflector.

A soft box can be used with either flash or continuous light sources.
