The Demon's Quest is a Batman: The Animated Series episode. It features Ra's Al Ghul as the main villain.
Plot
When Robin is mysteriously abducted from his college campus, the Batman begins a fruitless search ... until he is astounded by the sudden appearance in the Batcave of Ra's Al Ghul. Ra's quickly reveals that his daughter, Talia, has been abducted under circumstances similar to Robin's, suggesting that the same persons are responsible. In the second part, Batman learns that Ra's is a fanatic with a plan to destroy all the life that exists to repopulate the Earth.
Trivia
This article contains a list of miscellaneous information. (May 2007) |
- This two part episode was written by Dennis O'Neil former editor of the Batman titles and creator of Ra's Al Ghul and Talia Al Ghul.
- The episode is similar (but not identical) to Ra's Al Ghul's first comic appearance. This is due to both stories being written by the same author.
- Ra's states during the second part that he had chosen Bruce to take his place, as he "has no sons". However, the episode Showdown, which aired much later, reveals Ra's to indeed have a son, Arcady Duvall. (Additionally, Ra's says, "Did you really think, detective, that in all my years of life I'd have sired only one offspring?" His phrasing here implies that he may have had many children over his 600-year lifespan.) However, Arcady was revealed to be both too cruel and too enfeebled beyond the help of the Lazarus Pits to lead his empire, so it's unknown if Ra's meant this statement to mean he has no sons capable of taking over, or none still living.
- As a show of just how calculated his madness is, during the second part of the episode, after Ra's tells Batman of his plans to cleanse the earth with the Lazarus pits, he corrects Batman's statement that the resulting cataclysm would cost 'countless' lives; Ra's had actually calculated a precise estimate of how many people would die as a result of his plan, the total ending at 2,056,986,000.
