Anise refers to either of two spice plants.

One plant is Pimpinella anisum, an herb in the family Apiaceae (formerly Umbelliferae). The seeds of this plant are the part normally used.

The other plant is the star anise, Illicium verum, a tree in the family Magnoliaceae. The star-shaped seed pods are the part used.

Both plants have similar aromatic properties.

The only occurrence of this word in the Bible is Matt. 23:23, where it refers to the plant commonly known as dill, Peucedanum graveolens, which see.
