As is the case with newspapers and media institutions around the world, the Citizen has had its share of mistakes and errors. Retractions and corrections are printed daily, as is typical in most newspapers. Several instances stand out, however. A column by staff writer Jim Luksic on May 12, 2007<ref>Key West Citizen, May 12, 2007</ref> discussing the subject of dolphin fish (Mahi-Mahi) included several aspects of the bottlenose dolphin, including referring to the fish, which are a prime catch in the Florida Keys, as a "sea mammal." The column sparked several days of controversy, eventually resulting in the publishing of a full column on the subject by the Citizen's sports editor four days later.<ref>Key West Citizen, May 16, 2007</ref> |
