Uniondale is a hamlet (and census-designated place) located in Nassau County, New York (Long Island). It is part of the Town of Hempstead, one of three towns (along with North Hempstead and Oyster Bay) that make up Nassau County. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 23,011.

Uniondale is located at 40°42'11" North, 73°35'28" West (40.703097, -73.591070)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 6.9 km² (2.7 mi²). 6.9 km² (2.7 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 23,011 people, 6,026 households, and 4,826 families residing in Uniondale. The population density is 3,352.7/km² (8,676.5/mi²). There are 6,201 housing units at an average density of 903.5/km² (2,338.1/mi²).

The racial makeup Uniondale is 26.97% White, 55.53% African American, 0.35% Native American, 2.10% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 9.95% from other races, and 5.01% from two or more races. 22.86% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. Uniondale's Black/African American population includes a high concentration of Caribbean immigrants.

There are 6,026 households out of which 39.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.9% are married couples living together, 20.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 19.9% are non-families. 16.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.66 and the average family size is 3.95.

In the village, the population is spread out with 26.5% under the age of 18, 9.7% from 18 to 24, 29.3% from 25 to 44, 21.9% from 45 to 64, and 12.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 90.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.5 males.

The median income for a household in Uniondale is $61,410, and the median income for a family is $67,264. Males have a median income of $32,417 versus $31,169 for females. Uniondale's per capita income is $19,069. 8.8% of the population and 6.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 9.0% of those under the age of 18 and 12.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Uniondale is home to the New York Islanders who play at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum and to the Mitchel Athletic Complex which is currently home to the Long Island Rough Riders pro soccer team and the Long Island Lizards of Major League Lacrosse.
