Warriors Orochi (Musou Orochi in Japan) is a PlayStation 2 action video game developed by Koei and Omega Force. It is a crossover of two popular video game series, Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors. The game was released on March 21, 2007 in Japan. Koei announced that there are plans to bring the game to Europe and North America [1]. It is due for release in September 21th 2007 in EU, and a US date is set to September 18. Also, Koei confirmed that the game will be released for Xbox 360[2]. Although Koei said that Warriors Orochi would be their last game for the PlayStation 2, it was confirmed that Samurai Warriors 2 Xtreme Legends will be released for the same console as well.
Story
An evil demon called Orochi disrupts time and space, putting the various heroes of the Three Kingdoms period of China (the setting of Dynasty Warriors) and the Sengoku period of Japan (the setting of Samurai Warriors) together. The heroes of these two different periods then unite to defeat Orochi.
There is a story for each of the four forces: Shu, Wei, Wu and Sengoku. The Others force can only be selected in Free Mode.

After Liu Bei goes missing, the Shu forces continue to lose their battles against Orochi. Many have been captured by Orochi, gone missing or joined the opposing forces and the Shu forces have almost been spread out. Zhao Yun has become a prisoner to Orochi and was under great despair for not being able to protect Liu Bei when he receives surprising new information...and a new charackter is schown zhang bao son of zhang fei his father zhang fei was killed by orochi and zhang baos only disire is to take revenge for the death of his father
Wei Musou story
After Cao Cao disappears in the battle against Orochi’s forces,Cao Pi takes over and allies Wei with Orochi, who is impressed with the Wei force’s strength and decides to join forces to fight against the other forces. Cao Pi agrees and they become allies. However, there are commanders in Wei who refuse to surrender and join other Orochi opposing forces. Orochi then begins to command Cao Pi to conquer the opposing forces where his former followers fled and Cao Pi obediently follows Orochi’s command...

Sengoku Musou story
Oda Nobunaga, Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin have barely kept their forces in tact and continue to oppose Orochi’s forces. However, even under these difficult circumstances it still appears they will not cooperate to fight together. Each were busy merging with the different Orochi-opposing forces that were spread out throughout the region...
Gameplay
Because Warriors Orochi is a crossover game, it takes the liberty of combining elements from the Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors games. The following are gameplay mechanics that have been used in prior Warriors titles, but given changes in Warriors Orochi:
- Dynasty Warriors 5's Evolution Attacks no longer need a full Musou gauge to activate and can be acquired by leveling up a character to a certain level.
- The Bow attack (R1 button) in Dynasty Warriors 5 are removed.
- Musou Rage (R3) in Dynasty Warriors 5 are removed.
- Oda Nobunaga utilizes his Samurai Warriors moveset, rather than his Samurai Warriors 2 moveset.
- In battle, changing the view of the map can be done by pressing the R3 joystick. The camera movement from Samurai Warriors 2 has been applied for this game.
- The Deadlock bar from Samurai Warriors 2 has been removed.
- The Item system from Dynasty Warriors has been removed, in favor of the skill system from Samurai Warriors 2. However, the player needs to select which skills to equip, similar to the first Samurai Warriors.
- All characters can now summon horses to their side by pressing select (Only Sanada Yukimura and Maeda Keiji in Samurai Warriors 2 could do this).
- Characters designated as a Speed Type can double jump by pressing X. In Samurai Warriors 2, only the three ninjas Hattori Hanzo, Nene and Fuma Kotaro could do this.
- The majority of the maps are recycled from Dynasty Warriors 5 and Samurai Warriors 2, albeit with a few changes, such as lava and burnt ground. Additionaly, the ninja paths from Samurai Warriors 2 are made inaccessible.
- Some of the songs from Dynasty Warriors 5 and Samurai Warriors 2 have been brought back, with a few new tracks specifically for this game. Lu Bu is given a remixed track for his theme song.
The following are some new gameplay mechanics added exclusively to Warriors Orochi:
- Players can take any three characters from the Dynasty and Samurai Warriors lineup into battle, forming a party. Using the R2 and L2 buttons, players can switch between the characters in their party any time during battle. Due to this new system, bodyguards have been completly removed from this game.
- All characters are designated either as a Power-type (red), Speed-type (blue) or Technique-type (yellow). By using the R1 button, various special attacks and abilities can be performed, depending on the character type.
- All characters have specific "personal items" that can be acquired by completing character specific objectivies.
- An art gallery, detailing all the characters appearances from previous titles they have appeared in. It also features all trailers from both series.
- If there are 2 players, the second player will use the same party as the first player. The only difference is that second player uses the alternate costumes.
- If a character has at least 2 weapons, there is an option to fuse them into a more powerful weapon with mixed stats.
Characters
79 characters encompass the roster of Warriors Orochi: 48 from Dynasty Warriors, 29 from Samurai Warriors (Including 3 characters that were left out of Samurai Warriors 2), and two new characters included exclusively for this game: the titular character and primary villain, Orochi (遠呂智), and Daji (妲己), the villainous concubine of King Zhou of Shang. Orochi wields a very large scythe, while Daji fights with two strange floating orbs.
Despite this however, some characters were still not included, like Fu Xi and Nu Wa from Dynasty Warriors 3. In addition, because Warriors Orochi was released before Samurai Warriors 2 Xtreme Legends, Imagawa Yoshimoto's updated character model, Sasaki Kojiro, Shibata Katsuie, Maeda Toshiie, Hosokawa Gracia, and Chosokabe Motochika are not playable.
