Plot

The episode begins when a young boy witnesses the Earl's killing a homeless man and placing an Akuma inside him. During this time, Allen and Toma are on a train heading back to the Black Order to return the retrieved Innocence when their train gets delayed due to the weather. While waiting for the rain to stop, Allen hears someone cry out that there is an Akuma in the town. When he arrives, Allen finds some townspeople angry at a young boy named Jean who supposedly likes to play tricks. Jean says that a homeless man was turned into an Akuma, but the man denies it, saying that the boy wanted to play a game and took it too seriously. Despite Jean's protests, the townspeople leave.

When the Akuma tries to kill Jean, Allen steps in and destroys him, saying that his eyes never lie. Jean is excited to meet a real exorcist and starts to ask Allen a lot of questions. When he is asked when he first killed an Akuma, Allen recalls a time when an Akuma cursed a younger version of himself. He immediately tells Jean to stop pursuing the Akumas because it may catch the Earl's attention. Jean refuses and runs off after throwing an onion bomb at Allen. Since Allen is worried about Jean, Toma promises to ask the Finders in the town to keep an eye on the boy.

The two return to the Black Order, but Allen is disappointed to find everyone's busy and tired to welcome them back. The exorcist gives the Innocence to Hevlaska and finds out that so far, 41 out of 109 Innocence have been found. The next day, Allen wakes up from a dream of a man telling him to continue walking no matter what and believes that he must be very tired because he is reminiscing about the past. When Lenalee blocks his way to the cafeteria (everyone is preparing a surprise party for him), Allen decides to find Jean's father, who works in the Science Department, with hopes that the father can persuade his son to stop getting involved with the Akuma. Unfortunately, Jean's father, Jake Russell, is too obsessed with his work to care.

Allen decides to reason with Jean personally, but the boy still won't listen. As Jean and his friend Leo leave, Allen notices that Leo is an Akuma. The two friends arrive at a cemetery and find the Millennium Earl. He reveals that Leo is an Akuma, which Allen confirms. However, Jean denies that his best friend could be an Akuma, but Leo transforms into Akuma and locks onto his ex-friend. Allen then gets in the way and takes the shots. As the virus spreads over Allen's body, the Earl tells Jean what an Akuma really is to him and claims that he creates the Akumas for humans' sake. Then Allen interrupts, claiming that he can see the soul of Leo's dead mother inside the Akuma. With his anti-Akuma weapon, Allen cures the virus inside his body. As soon as the Earl notices the curse on the exorcist's left eye, he remembers that he met Allen from a long time ago. Lenalee and Toma, who have been looking for Allen, arrive at the cemetery just as the Earl reveals that Allen turned his own father into an Akuma.
