Dear Moonwiki, you are most welcome! Thank you for your solidarity with the Iranian women; it was because of your messages in support of the List of Iranian Women that my attention was drawn to the List of the Indian Women. Welcome

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for registering, buddy, i hope you like it better now. I am very thankful to your edits on Lucknow page and would like to take this opportunity to point you to Wikipedia's Manual of Style. I seriously believe that once you go through the manual, not only will it help you become a better editor but it will also enable you to make informed style decisions. I have replied to some of your concerns on the talk page, please take a look when you have a minute.

Best Regards,

Thanks for uploading Image:Chhotaimambara-moonadnan.jpg.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:44, 1 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 12:44, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Duplicate images uploaded

Thanks for uploading Image:Adnanwiki.badaimambada1.JPG. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:Adnanwiki.badaimambara1.JPG. The copy called Image:Adnanwiki.badaimambara1.JPG has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Staeckerbot 14:30, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

hi

Hi Moonwiki, saw you made a change to La martiniere, lucknow and you have made changes to lucknow... are you local? We need an editor for the school to help us (who is local). Bit confused by your change. There are now two identical pictures and the infobox is not in its traditional top right location... can you explain ? 14:14, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

just looked at your two pictures above ... brilliant! Do you have one like that of the school? Victuallers 14:17, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about this ... this is all in bits .... I see from your profile that you have exactly the properties required. Will you help with your old school? We need some more modern sources and checking that Dalhliarose and I have got most of it correct Victuallers 14:20, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Vic !

I am a bit new to the Wiki world, hence the slow response. That pic of the school I discovered on the French Wikipedia , liked it and by mistake pasted it on the school site. I have removed it now.

I had put some names of famous achievers which has been improved upon by some good soul.

Wiki can really revive the Martinian diasporan spirit.

I am a proud Martinian and will strive to making our Wiki site better. Vive La Martiniere !moon 14:45, 2 July 2007 (UTC)moon[reply]

La Martiniere

Sorry for the delay... I normally expect replies on my talk page ... but this is OK too. PLeased to see you are adding alot to the article but surprised you deleted the Dalrymple stuff about the curriculum .... we are meant to show all views... complimentary or not. Oh ... bu the way ... DahliaRose and I are not Martinians ... we just thought that wikipedia needs more non US/UK schools and this is the most interesting school we could find. If we can get this article to reflect not only the past but also the present of the school then it should get promotion to "GA" .... only about 15 school articles in the world are this good. Hope you're enjoying this collaboration Victuallers 19:40, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Vic,

Thanks for your comments. I sincerely appreciate your intrest in my alma mater.

La Martiniere is a magical institution that keeps reinventing itself and perhaps this explains its amazing appeal over the decades.

Yes I am quite enjoying the Wiki experience in general.

La Martiniere Lucknow needs a lot of input to make it still better.

The reason hy I removed the William Dalrymple comments were because they were not reflecting the reality.

I am glad that La Martiniere is acquiring a fan following even outside the Martinian fraternity.

Vive La Martiniere

Regards

Welcome

Thank you for contributing to the La Martiniere article. I'm pleased that we now have a former alumni with local knowledge who can help us out. The College has an absolutely fascinating history. I'm very glad that you were able to add some detail about the Girls' College as we were struggling to find information about it. You've now helped to give the article a much better balance. As Victuallers has already explained above, we're trying to get this school promoted to good article status so we need to ensure that everything is properly sourced and that the tone is kept very neutral. It would be great if you could add some further detail about the facilities at the school. Can you add anything further about the extra-curricular activities? Do you by any chance know the numbers of pupils at the respective boys' and girls' colleges and the number of staff? It would also be useful if you could add explanations about the ages of children in the various classes as there doesn't seem to be anything on Wikipedia to tell us what an Indian Class X is. The article is also vague about the age at which the children start at La Martiniere. Dahliarose 16:02, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again

Impressed that the pages continue to grow, but I'm a bit concerned that some of the new stuff may get deleted as not being of interest to those outside the school and where we have no references. Wikipedia is strong on both these aspects and I know that Dahlirose and I are keen to get this to GA. We desperately need help to do this... but thought I would raise my concerns.... hope that OK Victuallers 05:43, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh ... any comments on the new additions to the talk page? Victuallers 05:43, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - again

Thanks for "coming back". Obviously the 1997 murder is notable. Many schools have never had anything so newsworthy happen (not they'd want to) ... the Dalrymple view may be just one person but he is writing books and tv programs based on his views.... and the school quotes him when he says it is "East of Eton".... so he does have balance elsewhere in his views. The pictures issue is different. We cannot put any pictures from the internet into Wiki. They have to be provably out of copyright. If you click on the wikimedia commons at the bottom of the article then you will see that we are using nearly every picture we have.

I was hoping we could find someone who could go to the school and take some pictures. We need some of the "wedgewood" ... the river ... the monuments. These pictures then need loading into wikimedia (I can show someone how) so that they are available free to wikipedia and anyone else.

Martin Palwa? a hamlet with less than 1000 people? We have articles on hamlets with less than 10 people in the UK (eg Arleston.... its near me. Although Vijay the golfer seems to come fropm Fiji ... says another site. Do you live near Lucknow Moon?

Oh ... do you fancy giving me a hand with the "Education in Lucknow" box? Victuallers 12:28, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello !

Yeah I am in Lucknow. I'll try to help you out in the "Education in Lucknow" with content. I am not very techno savy.

--- Well you will be! It comes easiest by just learning a bit here and there. The first question on the Education in Lucknow box is .... is it right? I have got a list of schools in Lucknow and just sorted them "as I thought best". I don't really want to include schools that have no wiki page but we could include one or two. Are the categories right? What should I do with the "Other" ones? If you want to have a look at how to edit then click on the "e". There is no damage you can do which I can't correct ... but you have to tell me if you make a mess... so I know to correct it. Otherwise tell what I should do and I'll do it. (I know this might take a few instructions before we get it right). Victuallers 14:39, 11 July 2007 (UTC) PS Login! Pictures

Hi Moon, I ve taken the precaution of copying your two pictures above to Wikimedia commons. I think that if they get deleted them "my" copies will become available. You should know that "my" copies on wikimedia are still clearlt labelled as coming from your work - Victuallers 13:03, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your additions to . . List of people from Uttar Pradesh

Good to see someone adding names here. BUT some of the persons(Shankar Dayal Sharma and Zakir Hussain and others) you added were not born in UP, hence they do not qualify the criteria. So please emove them.KnowledgeHegemony 09:40, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I know but Zakir Husain's origins are from Qaimganj in UP and Shankar Dayal Sharma was a student of Lucknow University. I included them on that basis.

Claude Martin was also not born here but he definitely qualifies as one.

hi moon

I'm about to stop for today ... however //i wouldn't delete stuff. I have made an error I guess with a reference. If you edit you will see its still there. I ll try and fix today ... but if not tomorrow. ... Have you see seen Antoin Poilon? Victuallers 17:58, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi moon

I'm a bit confused. I got your note. I think we now have his role "as a builder" in twice, I guess you tried to fix it. I'll try and sort it out. It may get worse before it gets better. It will help if you can avoid saving every 5 minutes for a while Victuallers 19:35, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Atal is from Gwalior thats what his wikipedia article says

Plz correct me if I am wrong--KnowledgeHegemony 05:43, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He was born in a village near Agra and stayed in Lucknow for a number of years. He is still the sitting MP from Lucknow

Gwalior is the place from where he won his first parliamentary elections.

He definitely deserves to be included from Lucknow / UP

Claude Martin(e) Wade

To find sources for him you need to look at Google Books (press the "more" button on Google main page). The key article from an 1899 Bio dictionary is only available "in snippet" unless you have access to a library etc. Note that he is sometime Martin and sometimes Martine.... the same applies to his namesake.

Other points: - 1. creating an article for each of the seven schools? Much easier if we use templates. So for instance the school song can be made a template ... and a potted history of CMartin etc. That way there is little effort in maintaining seven articles.

2. Not sure I have fixed the picture problem. Victuallers 08:40, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

La Martiniere schools

Yes I think we will eventually need separate articles for all the schools. There is only currently sufficient information to split the Lucknow schools, but much of the information could probably be adapted for the other schools as Victuallers suggests. I will have a go at doing the split later this week unless anyone else wants to tackle it first.

A few points about the Lucknow school. When you make edits can you make sure that you retain the existing references in the appropriate positions, and even more importantly make sure that you don't delete the references. The references are very important to the integrity of the article, especially when we're trying to present a balanced view and provide different perspectives. Also, if they get deleted, it can sometimes affect the way the other references are presented, especially if one reference has been used on multiple occasions. I've amended the bit about the naming of the building. At some point the reference got changed. The original reference from an article by Rosie Llewellyn Jones, the school's historian, actually presents both arguments about the naming of the school (she even says that Martin's family believe the story about the French girl Constance!). We now have a much more rounded perspective. I'm still somewhat confused about the burial and the nawab and I've put a comment on the school's talk page. Dahliarose 14:28, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kipling and The Pioneer

It doesn't matter that The Pioneer moved from Allahabad to Lucknow, Kipling was never in Lucknow. Had nothing to do with the town. As for Allahabad, Kipling was there for a little over a year (November 87 to March 89); not like Lahore, or Simla or Bombay, which are genuine Kipling cities, which he wrote about. You can include him in the Allahabad page, or the UP page, or in the Pioneer page (if there is one), but to include him in the Lucknow page is stretching. Sorry. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 08:29, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PS I did find a page for the Pioneer. I have now cleaned it up, added a history section, wikified it, and added references. Please read The Pioneer. As you will see on that page, the Pioneer moved from Allahabad to Lucknow only in 1933, long after Kipling had left it. As you also see, from the footnotes, Kipling's real attachment was to the Civil and Military Gazette in Lahore (which unfortunately doesn't seem to have a page!). Copyvio and sources

Hi Moonwiki. We need to get you to learn about using sources! We can help you to format them if you like. If you quote extracts from a book, then the source must be included. I think the extract you quoted in the educationist section came from the Chandan Mitra book (as per the La Martiniere Lucknow talk page) rather than the will. I also discovered that the section you used on Martin's mistresses was taken more or less word for word from an article by Rosie Llewellyn Jones on a website. I've now rewritten it so that it doesn't violate any copyright laws, and included the appropriate references. Dahliarose 11:14, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Dahliarose

Thanks for your polite reprimand. I'll be careful in the future.

I think the article on Claude Martin has shaped well and can be assessed for its quality.

You are terrific when it comes to editing. The La Martiniere Lucknow article too has come out well now.

Your editing style

Since you are new to Wikipedia and seem quite enthusiastic I would like you to go through Wikipedia: Manual of Style and Wikipedia: Copyedit to become an expert. I send you this message in response to your latest additions to Wikipedia and particularly List of people from Uttar Pradesh, which contain minor copyedit flaws. Also I confirmed that Atal Bihari Vajpayee was born in MP. Even Ruskin Bond is from Himachal Pradesh. So plz go through your additions again and confirm whether all were born in Uttar Pradesh. Happy editing. KnowledgeHegemony 17:01, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

La Martiniere Bias

I see that you being an ex- La Martiniere you are quite knowledgeable about its alumni, but I hope you realize that the List of people from Uttar Pradesh is getting biased and losing its balance by being filled up with not so notable alumni.

Also just because a person has studied in Uttar Pradesh he does not qualify in the list. Kindly read the criteria please. We have to stick to te criteria to avoid confusion since in this manner eg. Atal Bihari Vajpayee will be listed in MP and UP, hence to avoid such irregularities one has keep some boundaries (read criteria). Happy editing. Thank you.KnowledgeHegemony 17:12, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

Yes, I am. Sorry, Sometimes I forget to log in.

I feel that you are a true Awadhian and what you are doing for UP is because the natural passion you have for this incredibaly beautiful and fertile heartland of India. It needs to be rediscovered and repositioned as the syncretic code of togetherness that it represents.

Please do consider and widen the definition of a UP person as " some one who has been born, has roots in or has lived in UP .

Please add a section for "Business leaders and entrepreneurs" from UP

List is doing just fine! Kudos!

So here's a plan:-
  1. On a second thought, I felt your unformatted edits were quite good since first we should populate the list and once the list is well populated the we think about the format etc.
  2. Then when the list looks complete then we can add images.
  3. Finally, like I said the we will go for copyedit to meet Wikipedia Standards.--KnowledgeHegemony 15:41, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Promod Tiwari, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

Numerous articles

Hey there.

I appreciate your diligence in entering a large number of articles such as Sripati Mishra on former political figures, but you might want to research some additional information first. As they are, they are much below stub status. — Coren (talk) 01:34, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I Don't Need An Agent, Thanks

Please refrain from attributing anything to my name, as you did on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Indian women. It was entertaining to read, but not at all true. You can be completely confident in my abilities to speak for myself, I assure you. Thanks! Sidatio 06:08, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

Dear Moonwiki, you are most welcome! Thank you for your solidarity with the Iranian women; it was because of your messages in support of the List of the Iranian Women that my attention was drawn to the List of the Indian Women. I am a man myself, but the memory of my late mother keeps me fighting for women. Kind regards, --BF 13:37, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
