Biography

Justin Nozuka was born on September 29, 1988 in New York to a Japanese-born father and American-born mother. His parents divorced at age 3 and at 8 he and his family moved to Toronto, Canada. He is the sixth of seven children. Justin began writing his own songs at age 12 and the earliest of his songs on Holly, 'Supposed to Grow Old', was written when he was 15. He attended St. Andrews College, an international boarding school in Aurora, ON, where in eighth grade he learned to play guitar from Mexican classmates. He also appeared in two musicals. Justin was influenced by artists such as Lauryn Hill and Marvin Gaye.[1] He was 10 when he first performed to his family, with his sister commenting "Your voice is like Christina Aguilera."[2] He is the brother of Philip Nozuka an actor/comedian/writer, of R'n'B/Pop singer/ song writer George Nozuka, who is signed to HC Entertainment, of Christian, a pianist, guitarist composer and visual artist, his younger brother Henry who is a modern dancer/ choreographer, and two sisters Margaret and Sandra.

His debut album Holly was produced by Bill Bell. Canadian artist Damhnait Doyle from a song writing workshop he attended also introduced him to Universal Records talent scout Allan Reid. He recorded three tracks through Universal with Bill as producer, and following this, Universal requested to sign Justin to their label, but he decided he wanted to "record an album on my own, with my own freedom"[3]. He has played at the Green room stage at the Irish music festival Oxegen and T in the Park in 2007.

"Holly"

Justin has currently been performing throughout the UK, Europe and Canada. On tour, his band and him have given listeners a taste of what he has recorded on his debut album entitled "Holly". "Holly" is a very soulful, insightful and passionate combination of songs and lyrics co-written or written by Justin. The album has eleven songs to it and includes a hidden track following the final listed song "If I Gave You My Life". Many of Justin's songs deal with mature themes from experiences beyond his mere 18 years such as the song "Save Him" which draws from a story about an abusive relationship involving two people in the flat next door. The track "Down in a Cold Dirty Well" is also very well written and is about his perspective being stuck in a well, watching his life flash before his eyes. Another deeply impacting tract is "Criminal" where Justin tells the story of an intoxicated young man who makes the mistake of shattering a glass bottle on the streets, where children play with bare feet, and suffers from the overwhelming guilt.
