Charles Castronovo (born June 19, 1975) is an American operatic tenor. He is currently one of the most sought-after lyric tenors of his generation.
Castronovo was born in Queens, New York and grew up in Southern California. Castronovo attended California State University at Fullerton for undergraduate studies in classical voice. During his studies, his talent came to the attention of the chorusmaster of the Los Angeles Opera who promptly hired him as a chorister.
Castronovo began his professional career as a resident artist with the Los Angeles Opera, and later joined the Metropolitan Opera's Lindemann Young Artist Development Program. After garnering much experience at the Metropolitan Opera, a series of significant role debuts soon followed such as Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Ernesto (Don Pasquale), Fenton (Falstaff), Ferrando (Cosi fan tutte), Tamino (Die Zauberflote) and Alfredo (La Traviata).
He has sung at many of the world's leading opera houses such as, Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera Covent Garden, Staatsoper Berlin, Vienna Staatsoper, San Francisco Opera, Salzburg Festival and Santa Fe Opera.
Castronovo has recorded for the Decca, RCA Red Seal label and Opus 111 labels.
The 2006-07 season marked a series of significant role debuts such as Rodolfo (La Boheme), Nadir (Les pecheurs des Perles), Il Duca (Rigoletto) and Tom Rakewell (The Rake's Progress) and Mylio (Le Roi d'Ys.
