The Type 65 is an assault rifle developed and manufactured by the Combined Service Forces of Military of the Republic of China in Taiwan. It is a variant of the AR-15 with an AR-18 type short stroke gas system, modified iron sights, reshaped stock, and redesigned handguards. The designated number '65' refers to the Year 65 of Republic of China (1976), the year this model was developed.
Upgrades had the rifle renamed to the Type 65K2 and the Type 65K3.
Service Use
The T-65 assault rifle is the standard issued weapon for the army and the marine corps. The military has replaced all T-65s in frontline units with the T-86 in 1997, while the military police has already been issued T-91 in 2002.
