Tatum Riley (Scream)

Template:Scream character Tatum Riley was a fictional character who appeared in the first Scream film. She was portrayed by Rose McGowan.

Character information

Tatum was the best friend of Sidney Prescott and younger sister of Dewey Riley. She appears to be stronger minded than her friends, particularly her boyfriend Stu Macher. She is of a strong anti-sexist nature and overpowers her boyfriend and her brother. It is also notable that she drives.

After Sidney is attacked for the first time by the killer, she stayed at Tatum's house and Tatum gave her a lot of support which shows how close their friendship was. However, Tatum did not seem to have much respect for her brother Dewey as she constantly taunted him and ordered him around.

Tatum's death

Death

At Stu's party, Tatum is sent to fetch more beer from the fridge in the garage. The killer attacks her but she thinks it is just Randy Meeks playing a joke so she responds with cheeky dialogue. It is not until the killer slices through her arm with a knife that she knows he is for real. However, Tatum did not go down without a fight and slammed the fridge door in his face and smashed the beer bottles on him. She then tried to escape through the cat flap in the garage door but got stuck halfway. The killer pressed the switch that lifted the door up and Tautm's head was crushed and her neck was broken when she reached the top.

Trivia

• Rose McGowan dyed her hair strawberry blond for this role.
• Tatum is the only victim not to be stabbed or fatally wounded by the killer.
• Rose McGowan reportedly makes a cameo in Scream 2 in the crowded cinema scene, however, this has not been confirmed.
• The way that Tatum died had never been seen in any other horror movie before, making her death the most original death scene in the entire Scream trilogy.
