Pendulum |
---|
Pendulum are an electronic group originally hailing from Perth, Australia. In 2003, they relocated to the United Kingdom. The group is comprised of Rob Swire, Gareth McGrillen and Paul Harding.
The Pendulum sound is typically heavy beats accompanied by low, buzzing basslines, overlaid with synthesized leads. The group has produced various remixes of other artists, the most well-known being their remix of "Voodoo People" by The Prodigy.
Pendulum have also been remixed themselves. In 2006, 'Painkiller' with the Freestylers was remixed by Noisia and released on Against the Grain records.
"Slam" is still their biggest hit to date, peaking at #34 in the UK Singles Chart after receiving substantial airplay from BBC Radio 1.
History
In 2005 they released their debut album, Hold Your Colour, Critically, the album was well-received in both the United Kingdom and Australia. In addition, it was one of the biggest selling drum and bass releases of all time. Pendulum have also collaborated with the Freestylers, releasing the single Fasten Your Seatbelt. MC Spyda and Tenor Fly also feature as vocalists on the song "Tarantula". They are currently finishing their new album which should be released sometime in the 3rd Quarter of 2007, according to their official website. According to a recent gig at Swansea University, their new album is due for release in September but the reliability of this claim remains in question.
Live
In addition to numerous [DJ]-set style performances, Pendulum recently began to perform live with the more "traditional" band line-up, using equipment that reportedly lets them replicate their studio environment live. Their first performance was at the Fabric nightclub in London on 6 October 2006 accompanied by MC Jakes. The second was at SeOne, also in London, on the 2 December 2006. On New Years Eve 2006 they headlined at Belvoir Amphitheatre in their home town of Perth, Western Australia, playing to a full house (around 6000 people) alongside various international and local DJ's. They also headlined the East Dance Stage at Glastonbury Festival 2007.
