At the core of the multi-billion dollar Pokémon media franchise of various electronic games, ongoing anime, several manga series, collectible cards and other media created by Satoshi Tajiri are 493 distinctive fictional species classified as the titular Pokémon. These creatures and entities reside throughout the various regions of the fictional Pokémon world and can be caught by humans designated as Pokémon Trainers, and Trainers use Pokémon for a variety of purposes, such as being pets and loyal companions and/or being pitted against other trained Pokémon in competitive Pokémon battles. Pokémon are potentially powerful and magical creatures that can employ a variety of talents such as generating fire or heat, martial arts, telekinesis, and so on, and through age and experience many species undergo a metamorphosis and transform into a similar but stronger specie in a process referred to as Pokémon evolution.
This is a selected listing of twenty of the Pokémon species, arranged as they are in the main game series' National Pokédex.
Kricketot
Kricketot (コロボーシ, Korobōshi?, Korobohshi in original Japanese language versions) has two large antennae function not only as feelers, but also as a musical instrument. In order to create sounds, it swings its head around, causing the feelers to collide and make a sound like a xylophone. Kricketot's design is based on a composer or conductor; its body resembles an orchestra conductor's costume. Kricketot only learns harden and bide similar to Seedot
Collars of the female are noticeably larger than those of the male.
Also, it should be noticed that the antenna of Kricketot appear to be a raised version of Kricketune's mustache.
Oddly, it is strikingly similar to Volbeat and Illumise, due to similar head collars, and that it has antennas. However, besides the fact that they are both bug types, they are not related in any way.
Kricketune
Kricketune (コロトック, Korotokku?, Korotok in original Japanese language versions) resembles a dark red cricket standing upright. Its forearms curve into scythe-like shapes (compare with Scyther), perhaps resembling conductor's batons. It also has two large whiskers resembling a handlebar mustache above the nose. The "mustache" on the female is slightly smaller than the male's.
Its appearance resembles a violin, or double bass, with string-like lines on its neck. Due to these traits, its design could have been influenced by the real life violin beetle. But with its scythes, or bows (for a violin), it could most likely be instrument-designed, like its pre-evolution, Kricketot.
Shinx
All of its fur dazzles if danger is sensed. It flees while the foe is momentarily blinded. Its forelegs have a muscle-based system of generating electricity. Its body shines if endangered. This pokemon evolves into Luxio at level 15.
Luxio
This Pokemon is the 1st stage evolution of Shinx and learns few electric attacks. This pokemon evolves into Luxray at level 30.
Luxray
It has eyes that can see through anything so it can spot and capture prey hiding behind objects. This is the slowest electric pokemon to date which is odd as electric pokemon are usually some of the fastest.
Budew
Nando owned a Budew that evolved in a battle against Ash's Pikachu. Over the winter, it closes its bud and endures the cold. In spring, the bud opens and releases pollen. It lives alongside clear ponds. It scatters pollen that induces harsh sneezing and runny noses.
Roserade
Roserade is a pokemon that evolves from the 3rd generations' Roselia through use of a shiny stone, which evoles from the fourth generations' Budew through happiness. Roserade's first appearance is in the next gym battle in Pokemon Diamond And Pearl.
Cranidos
Craniados is owned by Sinnoh gym leader Roark and first makes it's appearance in Pokemon Diamond & Pearl Episode 15, "Shapes of Things to Come."
Rampardos
Rampardos is owned by Sinnoh gym leader Bob. His Craniados evolved into Rampardos during a battle against Team Rocket in Pokemon Diamond & Pearl Episode 18, "O'er the Rampardos We Watched!"
Shieldon
A Pokémon that lived in jungles around 1 year ago. Its facial hide is extremely hard. It habitually polishes its face by rubbing it against tree trunks. It is weak to attacks from behind.
Bastiodon
Bastiodon is the 2nd and final evolution of Shieldon. It's face resembles a large shield. It has pitiful attack and special attack, but makes up for it with high defense and special defense. It's growth speed is an "Erratic" type, meaning it might grow quickly one level, and slowly the next.
Burmy
Burmy's name is derived from its inspiration, the bagworm. Like its real-life counterpart, Burmy produces a sticky substance that it uses to bind nearby debris to its worm-like body as protection and camouflage. This unique property causes it to change shape after a battle, although its type, stats, and moves are unchanged. After a battle in a natural setting, such as tall grass, it cloaks itself in leaves and twigs, giving itself a bush-like appearance. After a battle in a cave or desert, it surrounds itself in dust and pebbles, yielding a dust ball-like appearance. After a battle in a building, it envelops itself in a discarded plastic bag and bits of wire, appearing to be a pink puff with two arm-like wires. The different forms are known as 'cloaks'.
A Bug Maniac in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl will give the player a Macho Brace if the player shows him all three forms of Burmy in his party.
Wormadam
When a female Burmy evolves, its current 'cloak' dictates the appearance, stats, form, and moves of its evolved form, Wormadam. All three forms of Wormadam have unique type combinations, but inferior stats and moves.
A grass-cloaked Burmy will evolve into a Bug/Grass type, distinguishable by its collar of leaves and the flowered, wreath-like growth around its lower body. It has good Special Defense and decent Defense, but otherwise awful stats. It learns the powerful Grass-type move Leaf Storm and a number of Psychic moves, but oddly, no Bug-type moves. Its unique typing makes it extremely susceptible to Flying- and Fire-type moves.
An earth-cloaked Burmy will evolve into a Bug/Ground type with rock-like arms and an odd beard-like swath of yellow dust along its lower body. It has good Defense and decent Special Defense, but otherwise awful stats. It learns a number of Psychic moves and only a single Ground move, the one-hit finisher Fissure. It learns no Bug moves. Its unique typing grants it a full resistance to Electric moves and only a few weaknesses.
A garbage-cloaked Burmy will evolve into a Bug/Steel type entirely cloaked in a synthetic pink material. It has good Defense and Special Defense, but otherwise awful stats. It learns a number of strong Steel and Psychic moves, although its Iron Head attack's Flinch effect has limited use given Wormadam's terrible Speed. It learns no Bug moves. Its unique typing gives it a host of resistances and only a double weakness to Fire.
Mothim
Male Burmy evolve into Mothim at level 20 while Female Burmy evolve into Wormadam.Mothim has four tan-colored wings, two large and two small, with brown circles adorning them. The wings split to three at the tip of the larger wings and splits in two at the tips of the smaller wings. Mothim has a grey head, with two red and white antennae above its head. Mothim's body is grey also and its legs are white. It also has a small grey tail that splits into two. It also looks a bit like Mothra from the Godzilla movie series.
Unlike the sedentary Burmy and Wormadam, Mothim never really stay in one spot for long. It is continuously flying across the countryside in search of its favorite food, honey, which it steals from Combee. Mothim slightly resembles Dustox and Beautifly.
Statistically, despite being a moth instead of a butterfly, Mothim is similar to Butterfree and Beautifly.
Combee
Combee are similar to Dugtrio and Magneton in that they are composed of three Pokemon fused together. Unlike the former, the single units that form Combee do not exist, and Combee can only be caught in its honeycomb-like triple form. Combee have the unique ability Honey Gather that collects the item Sweet Honey after a battle. Sweet Honey, when smeared on certain trees, attracts rare Pokemon including, ironically, Combee. Most Combee do not evolve and learn only two weak moves, but 1 in 8 Combee are female, able to evolve into the powerful Vespiquen.
Vespiquen
Vespiquen evolve from the rare female Combee at a low level. Vespiquen are highly intelligent, able to summon and command an entire hive of Combee, which it births through its honeycomb-like bottom, to do their bidding. While Vespiquen have only middling stats, they boast an impressive array of moves, including the unique Attack, Defend, and Heal Order, which command swarms of Combee to strike for, shield, or bring healing honey to their queen. A high-level Vespiquen is used by Elite Four Aaron.
Pachirisu
Pachirisu
During her travels, Dawn met up with a hyper Pachirisu. After several problems between Pachirisu and the group, Dawn eventually befriended the cute little squirrel. It is a loving Pokémon, that is known to shock Dawn whenever it is happy, causing Dawn a Bad Hair Day. However, it has some powerful attacks including Spark so it is able to hold its own in battle.
Buizel
Buizel (a sea weasel pokemon) which appears in the pokemon film 'Pokemon Ranger & The Deep Sea Temple.' Buizel alond with Chatot appear in this film and manga books and comic strips.
After hooking it while fishing, the strong Buizel managed to take out Pikachu, Piplup & Zoey's Glameow. This made all three want to get it. After rescuing it from Team Rocket, Buizel allowed Dawn to battle it in order to capture it, which she did. Buizel is a rather strong & arroagnt Pokémon, the strength of her team. However, due to its arrogance, it is not above disobeying orders.
