K562 cells are a specialized cell line of human erythroleukemia cells. Like HeLacells, K562 cells are involved in various research experiments.
K562 is a known chronic mylogenous leukemia. The cells are Philadelphia_chromosome positive, and normal K562s lack any MHC/HLA molecules. However, transfected lines are available that express MHC class-I A2 and A3 molecules, containing normally processed endogenous antigen. This transfection must be maintained by the addition of antibiotic G-418.
