Tiger Cruise (August 6, 2004) is the 53rd Disney Channel Original Movie. It stars Hayden Panettiere (Heroes) and Bill Pullman (Independence Day). The film's fictional events are intertwined with the real-life events of the September 11, 2001 attacks.

Plot Summary

Maddie Dolan is on a mission to convince her dad to give up his naval career and come home to his family where he belongs. To do this, Maddie accepts her dad's offer to participate in Operation Tiger, a week-long cruise for family and friends aboard his aircraft carrier. Then, she sits down with her father and tries to convince him to find a job that would keep him close to home and his family.

Also along for the trip is Tina, whose older sister, Grace, is a Navy aviator. Tina is fascinated by military life and hopes to, one day, join her sister as a pilot. Grace has spent years trying to convince Tina that Navy life isn't as glamorous as it seems. In addition, there's Anthony, who's not interested in anything that's happening onboard. He also thinks there's too many rules on the ship.

Maddie thinks her plans might actually work until September 11, 2001, two days into the cruise. When the ship goes into high alert, Maddie gets to see her father's courage, honor and commitment to his family firsthand and discovers the importance of the sacrifice he makes to serve his country, and she now understands why her dad wants to (and has to) serve.

Tiger Cruise is a fictional story inspired by actual events on what happened aboard the USS Constellation (CV-64), as well as 9/11.

Inconsistencies

When the Constellation arrives at San Diego, California, Downtown San Diego is featured in the background showing the Twin Hyatts where only the first one had been completed by September 2001, roughly around the time of the terrorist attacks.

Much of the movie was shot onboard John C. Stennis (CVN-74) with additionally filming onboard Nimitz (CVN-68) (the Constellation was decommissioned before production started). The hull numbers of all three ships are visible at various times throughout the movie. Actual crewmembers of the Stennis were used as extras, and a few can be seen wearing Stennis ballcaps instead of the prop Constellation caps.

Trivia

Tiger Cruise is one of the few DCOMs to have a PG rating

Tiger Cruise the only DCOM to bear a Viewer Discretion warning at the beginning of the film. However, it encourages family viewing so that the family watching it could talk about the movie and the events of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
