Paul Bowman (born 24 January, 1976 in Newcastle, New South Wales) is an Australian professional rugby league footballer. He plays for the North Queensland Cowboys in the National Rugby League competition.

Career

Bowman has played the most games for the Cowboys, and is also the last player from the Cowboys' first season to be still playing for the club. Renowned as one of the best defensive centres in the competition, Bowman has also represented Queensland in the State of Origin competition 12 times since 2000.

Bowman was also captain of the North Queensland club between 2001 and 2004. He was the first person to be awarded life membership of the Cowboys.

The Paul Bowman Medal is awarded to each year's best and fairest A-grade player for the Whitsunday Brahmans, his junior club in North Queensland. [1]

Retirement

Bowman has since announced that the 2007 NRL season would be his last, ending a 12-year career. Bowman is nearing the 200 game mark, at 198 games, and just two remaining in the regular season. The Cowboys are likely to play in the finals series, giving Bowman one last opportunity at a NRL Premiership.[2]

Just recently, the Cowboys announced that the Cowboy of the Year award would be renamed the Paul Bowman Award. Bowman played his last regular season game on August 31 against the Canterbury Bulldogs in Townsville.
