At its best its examination results in GCSEs and GNVQs were excellent, raising the bar for other local schools to achieve similarly. At its best it was a very good school gaining excellent results which led to top scores in the leauge tables. Often battling with St Bernards for the top. It is also well known that nearby Kimberworth Comprehensive school and Wingfield Comprehensive school were rivals with Old Hall. This often led to large fights and gangs congregating around the schools.

The school ceased to exist under its old name as of September 2003 when it merged with Kimberworth School to form [[Winterhill School]]. The merge saw several incidents of gang violence as a result of the rivalry that had existed when the two schools were seperate. A heavy police presence was maintained for a number of months.
The name 'Old Hall' lives on in the City Learning Centre located on the site of the school. The centre was the only part of the old school which remained when it was rebuilt..

The school had no 6th-form college attached to it but many of its students proceeded to study A-Levels and other further qualifications at Rotherham colleges.
There was no sixth form, but after GCSEs many young people go on into modern apprenticeships, work or into sixth form in other schools or at a specialised college such as [http://www.thomroth.ac.uk Thomas Rotherham College].
