Britney Spears's fifth studio album is scheduled to be released on November 12 2007 worldwide and November 13 2007 in the U.S.[15][16] It is her first studio album since In the Zone in November 2003. Earlier this year, anonymous insiders at Jive Records accused the album of being unfinished and unfit to sell, though Jive itself has strictly denied those accusations.[17] [18]
On September 29,2007, the album leaked into the internet.
Contributors
Much like "Entertainment Weekly" and "People" earlier in September 2007, Fox News has been played a handful of songs from Spears' forthcoming fifth album, out on 12th November 2007. They report that Jive’s new A&R guru, Theresa LaBarbera Whites, who is credited for discovering Destiny’s Child and Jessica Simpson, is in charge of the project, and reviewed "Heaven On Earth," "Piece Of Me," "Radar" and "Break The Ice," which they confirmed as a Danja production. "Heaven On Earth," co-written by a California duo called Freescha, with Kara DioGuardi, is described as a 'smash; a totally original dance track that comprises a distinctive and catchy melody that sounds fresh and exciting, and is eminently hummable'. The Bloodshy & Avant-produced, "Piece Of Me," sees her describing the paparazzi as 'pissing me off' and taking pictures of her derriere, sounding as if 'she is trapped in a pinball machine', rhyming 'rich and famous' with 'shameless, and featuring the producers singing 'Extra! Extra!' in the background. "Radar" is described as 'straight-ahead electronic disco, with sonar pings and sounds like Las Vegas goes EuroDisco'. “Break the Ice” was produced by Nate “Danja” Hills, protégé to Timbaland and the man behind “Gimme More.”[19]
Sean Garrett
During December 2006, Sean Garrett spoke about the upcoming album and called it "incredible." He said the seven tracks he had produced were "exciting, aggressive, and fun." He added that her music was "definitely getting back to the basics and trying to make the world dance and sing to her beat."[8] Later on April 2007, he mentioned to People Magazine that, "Her new album is like 'Toxic' times 10. It's going to be a lot of fun and really exciting."[20] Garrett also commented on June 2007 to Billboard that the album is "uptempo, out of control...it's wowzers, produced by me and Bloodshy. I can't give the title yet, but the record is done and definitely what people want to hear from her."[21]
Ne-Yo
Producer Ne-Yo said that Jive Records wished to avoid the topic of Spears's ex-husband, as "we don't need no songs about Kevin." He stated the songs he is writing will be "songs about all the controversy, then, you know, aside from all that, they'll be just regular quality songs. Songs about love, songs about hate, songs about whatever."[22] He also wrote many potential tracks for Spears and told Ryan Seacrest on August 29, 2007 that "[Britney has] gotta remind people why they love her in the first place. She's gotta get their minds off her personal life and back on music."[3]On September 18, 2007, Ne-Yo confirmed on MTV.com that he still has two songs ready for Spears, when she is ready to get them.[23][24]
Nate "Danja" Hills
In an interview on the May/June 2007 issue of Scratch, Nate "Danja" Hills announced he produced a track for Spears that sounds like music from a video game.[4].
J.R. Rotem
Rotem and Spears worked on "a bunch of stuff," some of which she wrote and brought in and some he wrote for her. According to him, the album is "about feeling good, celebrating womanhood" and not about the recent problems in her personal life. Rotem also states her new music is "the next level" in pop music.[5]
T-Pain
On August 30, the singer and producer T-Pain confirmed on MTV.com that he produced three songs for Spears's new album, titled "Boyfriend," "Cold as Fire" and "One of a Kind."[25]
Freescha
Freescha is the San Fernando Valley, California duo of Nick Huntington and Mike McGroarty. "Heaven on Earth" is the song they wrote with Nicole Morier of Electrocute and produced alongside Kara Dioguardi.
Kara Dioguardi
Kara Dioguardi confirmed one track written and co-produced by her: "Ooh Baby" with Fredwreck and one track co-produced by her and written by Nicole Morier and Freescha titled "Heaven on Earth" .[14]
Bloodshy & Avant
According to Fox News the production team produced three songs for the album. “Piece of Me” is meant to be a reaction to Spears’ treatment by the tabloid press and the paparazzi. She gets to sing lines about the photogs “pissing me off” and taking pictures of her derriere. The song has a "clever production" — it sounds like Britney’s trapped in a pinball machine — as it rhymes “rich and famous” with “shameless.” The producers even get to chime in vocally, singing “Extra! Extra!”.
Album title
On June 13, 2007, Spears asked the members of her official fan club to pick the title for the album, via a poll posted on her official web site. It is likely that Spears will choose a name that isn't on the poll.
On September 11, 2007, B97.1 radio station claimed that "Pieces of Me" could be the title of Spears' forthcoming album, as well as the title of the second single. The same day, People magazine identified it as a possible album title.[26]
The album is currently available for pre-order on various UK retail websites under the title Pieces of Me.[27][28]
