Triangle Television

Triangle Television is a television station in Auckland and Wellington, New Zealand. It is a not-for-profit trust which runs the public service, non-commercial and Government-owned UHF channel for the Auckland region. It started broadcasting in Auckland on 1 August, 1998. It broadcasts programs in many languages as it is run as a public station. This means anyone can make a program for them. It is a popular service for ethnic communities in the city who can't see their own programmes or hear their own languages anywhere else on New Zealand television. Time slots are sold on a first come first served basis and the station offers editorial freedom on content. Other content includes a selection of news, current affairs and documentaries from public service stations such as DW-TV, TV5 Monde, BVN, AlJazeera English and VOA.

The station acts independently from all program providers. According to Triangle Television, this independence ensures Triangle Television 'cannot be controlled by individuals or groups with their own agendas' [1]

On 25 August 2006 Triangle started broadcasting in Wellington on the reserved non-commercial frequency, with a similar aim of providing access to the television airwaves for Wellingtonians. The Wellington sister station is run from Auckland using an IP link. It has much programming in common with Auckland.

Triangle TV will run a service available on Freeview in 2007, called Stratos TV [2].
