Shinji Hirako (平子 真子, Hirako Shinji) is a character in the manga and anime series Bleach. Shinji is a vizard and initially acts as their recruiter, later appearing in a more solid leadership role.
An early design of Shinji can be seen in the first chapter's cover art, making it clear he was planned well before his introduction.[1] He is also a playable character in Bleach: Heat the Soul 4 & Bleach Blade Battlers 2, alongside Kensei, Hiyori, and Lisa.

Synopsis
Shinji first appeared after the events of the Bount arc, standing on top of a pole much like how Rukia Kuchiki did when she was introduced. Shinji takes up the guise of a new student and Ichigo Kurosaki's school in an attempt to make him join the vizard, though Ichigo refuses. Ichigo, after losing to Grimmjow Jeagerjaques, does eventually go to the vizard headquarters to learn to control his inner hollow, however, though refuses to join. Shinji, angered, has a fight with Ichigo, though Hiyori interrupts and takes over Ichigo's training. During a fight with Hiyori's hollow, Ichigo transforms into his own hollow form, and Shinji, retaking control, leads the vizard in subduing Ichigo's hollow form. Shinji then sends Ichigo to his inner world, where Ichigo confronts his inner hollow and fully transforms into his hollow form. Shinji and the other vizard take turns battling it until Ichigo successfully becomes a shinigami again.
Shinji also reappears in order to aid Ichigo and Rukia Kuchiki against Grimmjow. Shinji overpowers Grimmjow until the latter is taken back to Hueco Mundo.
Powers and abilities
Shinji is implied to be a powerful combatant, as are most of the vizard. It is unknown as of now where Shinji stands in the vizard ranks, if such ranks exist. After the point at which Ichigo arrives at the vizard warehouse, Shinji appears to step more obviously into a position of unofficial leadership, as he is seen structuring the group's fighting rotations during the battle with Ichigo's hollow, among other things.[5] At one point, when Shinji begins to fight with Ichigo, the other vizard mention that Ichigo is foolish to battle Shinji and that Shinji is not taking the battle seriously.[6]
Shinji's hollow mask resembles a pharaoh's death mask. Shinji is quite skilled with his hollow powers, such as cero blasts. The video games also depict him being able to split the cero blasts into a pyramid shaped attack.
Zanpakutō
Not much has been revealed about Shinji's zanpakutō, as he rarely uses or even visibly wears it. The hilt and sheath are red. None of his release states have been shown, and the times that he does seriously fight he seems to rely more on his hollow mask.
