Leslie "Jake" Ryan is a fictional character from the Disney Channel Original Series Hannah Montana. He is played by Cody Linley. He is a foil of Miley Stewart.

Character Description

An actor on the television show Zombie High, he begins to attend Seaview Middle School. His real name is Leslie which he only tells Miley. He is voted "hottie" of the year. His signature line is: "Dude, I slayed you once! Don't make me slay you again." Miley is at first resentful of him because of the perks he is given for being a celebrity, but then the two discover that they are both in love with each other. Jake eventually admits he gets sick of all the attention, and sometimes wants to "turn the whole movie star thing off" and be a regular kid, (he said this in a conversation with Hannah Montana). When he eventually does, Miley realizes her feelings for him. Lilly has always been obsessed with him, as with most of the other girls in school. He has a girlfriend later on in the episode Good Golly, Miss Dolly, named Rachel who makes Miley really jealous. He is in all 4 episodes on the Pop Star Profile DVD.

In the episode People Who Use People, Jake tries to make Miley jealous and hangs out with an actress named Holly. Vice versa, Miley pretends to date Willis, who is "graduating." Unfortunately, she and Jake both realize that he's only 11 (and 3/4) and Jake accuses Miley of only going out with Willis to make him jealous. Miley then accuses Jake of going out with Holly to make her jealous. Jake tells Miley that Holly is just his co-star - they are dating for publicity. Jake and Miley kiss and become a couple, but then he has to go to Romania for 4 months to film a movie, substituting Frankie Muniz. Although in Achy Jakey Heart, Part 1, it said he was gone for 6 months. Miley is upset and shoves him off the railing.

During season 2, Jake returns from Romania and is hoping that Miley will be waiting for him. To his dismay, she is still very angry at him for kissing and leaving her. He tries to make it up to her by doing everything a girl could want and says that he never stopped thinking about her while wearing a suit of armor. Miley caves and says that she also has not stopped thinking about him, too. She says that they could start with that night, but Jake says that he has to go to the premiere of his movie with his co-star , Marissa Hughes, on a fake date for the press. Miley is angry and says that he is the same jerk that he was 6 months ago but now he's a jerk with a headache and starts to hit him with a salami. Later on, Miley is watching the premiere on TV with Robbie Ray and Lilly. Jake admits on TV that he is in love with a girl named Miley Stewart. After the movie is over, Miley meets Jake outside the premiere, then they make up and kiss. They go on many dates and he names a star after Miley. He reveals to Miley that his real name is Leslie. Miley feels bad and tells Jake that she is Hannah Montana.

Relationship with Miley Stewart

Jake returns for the second season in the episodes Achy Jakey Heart, Part 1 and Achy Jakey Heart, Part 2, where he fights for Miley's attention. Miley is heard telling Lilly that she wouldn't care if Jake came down from the sky wearing a tuxedo and carrying a dozen roses, and behold, Jake parachutes down from the sky carrying a rose and chocolates, asking Miley for a second chance. She refuses. He then tries to win her over with candy and flowers and gift baskets, but she resists. At the premiere for his new movie, Jake is seen with co-star, Marissa. While being interviewed at their movie premier, a reporter asks Jake when he first knew he was in love. He replies that it was when he first looked into Miley's eyes, though he meant to say Marissa. Marissa and the reporter are both startled, and Jake confesses to the camera that he's in love with Miley Stewart, who's watching with Robbie and Lilly on TV. Their mouths drop open and Miley replays the scene where Jake says that he is in love with her. Miley shows up at the premiere and forgives him, and they kiss in front of the paparazzi and media. Miley's life suddenly changes when she becomes popular. She says that Hannah is used to the fame but Miley isn't.

Miley and Jake's relationship seems perfect. However, Miley feels guilty after Jake names a star after her and tells her his biggest secret (his real name is Leslie). She feels compelled to tell him her secret. He responds better than Oliver and doesn't faint.

Now that the couple is totally honest with each other, Miley is experiencing a lot of stress from being such a big celebrity's girlfriend. She complains to Jake, who decides to disguise himself as a "normal" kid ... Milosh. Donning an itchy wig, glasses, and accent, he tries to fit in with Oliver, Lilly, and Miley. It doesn't work. He is obnoxious and impatient and Miley becomes disgusted. She decides she must break up with him, just as he comes back into the room, yelling at the makers of his "itchy wig." Miley gets cold feet, but Lilly gives her the idea to get Jake to break up with her.

At his next premiere, she tries to be as obnoxious as he is. She dresses up in a swan dress (a parody of Björk's controversial Oscar attire), itches the back of her throat with her tongue,and glues hair under her arms. She is totally un-charming and disgusts Jake to the point that they leave the theater. Back at Miley's house, Jake tells her that he knows what's going on - she's jealous of him because it's Jake getting the attention, not Hannah. They argue and he says he only did the "stupid normal kid thing" for her. She gets angry and says that she loves the "stupid normal thing." She then reminds him of the time he told her that he wished he could turn off the fame and be a normal kid for once. Miley says that she wanted to date that guy, not the obnoxious guy he is now. Jake asks her why she didn't dump him to begin with and she admits that she was afraid he'd tell her secret. Jake responds that if that's the kind of guy she thinks he is, maybe he should tell her secret.

The episode, however, ends with Jake apologizing by sending a single rose with a note saying that he'll try to be a normal person before he tries dating her again. He also told Miley her secret is safe with him and signed the note "Leslie". Robbie wonders who that is. Miley replies "a friend...a very good friend..."

Their relationship continues in the episode, That's What Friends Are For?, as Jake appears at Miley's house to discuss where they are as friends. Miley thinks he wants to get back together with her, but ironically he would rather be friends changing Miley's attitude. After adjusting to their new-found relationship, Jake reveals that his new co-star (that he will also be kissing) in his next film is none other than Hannah's Arch Rival, Mikayla. Miley puts on an act in front of Jake pretending not to be jealous, yet secretly tries to fire Mikayla off the set, as Mikayla has plans to make Jake her boyfriend. As usual, Miley's plans fail and she must face the music with Jake where they both make up and remain platonic.

• Miley Stewart (Miley Cyrus) The protagonist of the show. She first thinks that he is arrogant and vain, but in the end, she realizes how much he likes her, and she begins to have a crush on him. Finally, they end up sharing a kiss, and are boyfriend and girlfriend, but Jake has to leave to shoot a movie in Romania that night, but will be back in 6 months. When he's back (Achy Jakey Heart), Miley refuses to take him back because he kissed her and left for so long. She says that she will never love anyone who hurt her. Finally, he confesses his love for her on live TV and they begin to date. He learns that Miley is Hannah Montana and their relationship seems perfect. Miley becomes annoyed and tells Jake that before he came back, all he wanted was to be a normal kid. Jake then sends a letter for Miley saying that he does want to be a normal kid and he will try to be worthy of someone as terrific as Miley. He also says that her secret is safe with him.

However, once Jake tries to be a normal kid, she gets just as annoyed with him as anyone else, (except maybe Miley).

• Mikayla (Selena Gomez) In the episode That's What Friends Are For? Jake tells Miley he wants to keep their relationship platonic, Miley convinces herself that she is fine with it and won't be jealous. However, when she discovers that her biggest competitor, Mikayla, is going to be Jake's new co-star and love interest on his next film, Miley devises a plan to get Mikayla fired off the set she takes over Mikalya's part and this is all part of her plan to get Mikayla fired.

• Oliver Oken (Mitchel Musso) Oliver depended on Jake to turn girls down, so the girls would have to cry on his shoulder. He also introduces Jake at a '70s Dance by saying "I welcome my close personal best friend Jake Ryan... who says I'm the second coolest guy at school!"
• Lilly Truscott (Emily Osment) Jake hangs out with Lilly, Oliver, and Miley a lot during the time that he was dating Miley, but was also a school friend before.
• Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana (Miley Cyrus) Although Miley did hate Jake in the beginning, after she admitted to herself that she liked him, they became friends, and later, boyfriend and girlfriend. Even after Miley and Jake broke up, they decided to still remain friends.

• Jake naming a star for Miley is like Landon naming a star for Jamie in the movie "A Walk to Remember."
• The songs If We Were a Movie and One in a Million are based on the relationship between Miley Stewart and Jake Ryan.
• Jake Ryan is the name of the high school popular student in the 1984 movie Sixteen Candles starring Molly Ringwald. The name is commonly used to denote "the perfect boyfriend."
• The second Hannah Montana DVD, Pop Star Profile, depicts the "Jake Ryan Saga" (Not including the Achy Jakey Heart episodes).
• In the episode People Who Use People, Jake said that he left to shoot a movie in Romania for four months. But, in Achy Jakey Heart, Part 1, he said he left for six months.
• Jake Ryan's real name is Leslie, as mentioned in the episode, which he only tells Miley/Hannah. Achy Jakey Heart, Part 1.
